When Riddles Come Rumbling

Here is a great text to use for an inference lesson! When Riddles Come Rumbling by Rebecca Kai Dotlich is a collection of "poems to ponder" and is filled with riddles about everyday ideas and objects. Readers use the clues to make inferences and guess what each poem is about. Use as a read aloud, reading one line or clue at a time while students record their inferences, which may or may not change, as each clue is given. or... just have students turn and talk to each other about their inferences as each clue is read by the teacher.  For an extension activity, have the students come up with their own riddle poem to try and stump their friends.
Such a fun way to get students making inferences!
