A to Z Bible Story Lesson- Letter J







J- Jesus


Objectives: The children will be able to
- retell the story Let The Children Come To Me
- identify who Jesus loves
- explain how we should treat others



Review:
Prayer and questions from last week’s lesson.


Vocabulary Words:

Jesus Loves Me Word Wall- Word wall templates are large flash card printables that you can hang on the wall to aid children when they are learning or using new vocabulary words.

Circle Time:

Have you ever felt that you were not welcome? Have you ever gone over to someone’s house and they did not want to play with you? How did that feel? Discuss.

Introduce story: Here is a story about how Jesus always loves us and that we are to love others too.

Read story “Let the Children Come to Me” and ask questions from below.


1. Who does Jesus love? (Everyone, Only the good)

2. Who took the children to see Jesus? (Their mothers, Their fathers)

3. Was the friend of Jesus glad that the children had come? (Yes, No)

4. What did he want them to do with the children?
(Take the children closer to Jesus, Take the children back home)

5. Who saw what was happening to the children? (Their fathers, Jesus)

6. Did Jesus want the children sent away? (Yes, No)

7. Does Jesus always want the children to come to him? (Yes, No)

8. Who did Jesus say that loved the children? (God, Moses)

9. What did Jesus say that all of us should do with children?
(Not bring them to big gatherings to hear him, To love them and take care of them)

10. Who said to "Let the children come to me"? (Moses, Jesus)

Introduce movie: How do we show the special love Jesus says we should have? How should we treat others? Discuss. We should treat everyone how you would like to be treated.


Veggie Tales: God Wants Me To Forgive Them?!- The Grapes of Wrath (12 min.)

What did the grapes do to Junior? (They made fun of him.)

Who does God want us to be kind to? (Everyone)

When someone says they are sorry and they really mean it, what should you say? (I forgive you.)

How many times are you supposed to forgive someone? (Not 7 times, but seventy times seven (490). In other words, many, many times.)

What happened to the boat? (Larry smashed it.)

How did everyone feel about Larry? (They were mad at him.)

How doe it feel when someone says they forgive you? (It feels good.)

It is wrong to not forgive someone when they say they are sorry and they really mean it? (Yes.)

Introduce art project: Who does Jesus love?

Jesus & the Children- Bible Story Wheel (Bible Wheels to Make and Enjoy by Carmen Sorvillo, page 47 & 48.)

Need: Paper plates, markers or crayons, paper punch, and yarn.

Directions: Give each child a paper plate on which you have written the words Jesus Loves at the top. Have each child write their name at the bottom of the plate. Then have them draw pictures of themselves above the name and decorate the plate using the crayons or markers (glitter would add that special touch). Punch a hole in the center top of each plate and add a piece of yarn to hang.

Introduce game: Why does Jesus love you?

Children play musical chairs for a chance to discover how Jesus loves them. Have the children march around the chairs as you play the song “Jesus Loves Me”. Give the one who does not find a chair a crown to wear while taking a few moments to tell the other children why they believe Jesus loves them. This is for building up their self-esteem, in that they are not "losers" because they did not get a chair, but are special because of Jesus' love.

These would be perfect to keep around the area for when children first arrive, or are waiting to be picked up. If you run an all day daycare, these work wonderfully for center time activities.

Patterns of Love Pattern Matching Game-
This is a pattern matching game for children to decide what color heart comes next. Store the pattern strips in the Memory Pocket, and simply print up an extra sheet and cut out the hearts for playing pieces.

Alphabet Hearts File Folder Game-
This is an alphabet file folder game with hearts. Children match the upper and lowercase versions of the letters.

The Color of Love File Folder Game-
This is a heart file folder game where children can match the different colors of hearts to each other.

Win or Lose by How You Choose

Need: Book- Win or Lose by How You Choose by Judge Judy Sheindlin

Directions- Divide the class into teams and do questions out of “Win or Lose by How You Choose!”

Directions- Print out Directions, cut it out, and glue on front of file folder.

Game Board- Print out Game Board, trim, and glue on the inside of the file folder. Make sure the directions are on the front of the file folder. Laminate or cover file folder with clear contact paper to make it last.




Snacks:

Introduce snack- How can we say “I love you” to others? Have the children bake cookies and give to someone they love.
