STEP 1: Remove the base of the Christmas tree, using a sharp pair of scissors or utility knife, so you are left with a cone shape.
STEP 2: Next draw a 11 3/4” circle (the brim) on the chipboard sheet and then cut it out.
STEP 3: Cover both sides of the brim with patterned paper. Then use a sewing machine or hand stitch around the edge with some orange thread or embroidery floss. Gently turn up the brim to give the hat a little character. Tip: if you have a hard time curling up the brim, try brushing a little ModPodge or similar glue, on the brim first then shape it. You can use pins or tie the brim to hold it’s shape. When the glue dries it should be set to the shape you want.
STEP 4: Next bend the cone to the desired shape, as with the brim, you can use ModPodge to help the cone keep the shape. When dry, begin covering it with patterned paper. You will need two sheets to cover the entire cone.
STEP 5: Using the scallop border punch cut 3 to 4, 12” border strips out of patterned paper. Use a contrasting thread to stitch along each border. Sewing is completely optional. You can add ribbons or paper strips to finish off the seams.
STEP 6: Glue the cone to the brim to form the hat.
STEP 7: To create the layered ribbon use the Horizon patterned paper for the first layer. Use the diamond shape punch to help cut out the zig-zag border along the top. For the second layer use a scalloped border punch to finish the edges of the ribbon. The third layer is the large scallop edge of the Horizon patterned paper. Pleat, crease and fold each ribbon to give a distressed feel, then adhere each layer to the hat.
STEP 8: Make one more strip to fit around the base, where the cone and brim meet. This time tear the edges, to distress. Fold the strip accordion style, then glue into place.
STEP 9: Use punches to make center piece. Layer punch pieces and then attach to the “Happy Halloween” punch-out. Adhere to the front of the hat.
STEP 10: Take the “Beware” punch-out and then poke a small hole in the tip of the hat, then punch a small hole in the finished tag. Use some twine or floss to attach the tag to the hat.
STEP 11: Lastly, embellish the hat with a piece of berry garland which can be glue or hand stitched into place. There are so many more ideas for this...so have fun with it!

1) Cut a 7 inch pennant shape for your template. Trace this out onto five papers.
2) Use the Cricut diecut machine for shapes. Layer them working with sizes from 3 1/2 inches to 4 inches depending on the shape.
3) Adhere to pennants. Add diecuts, spiders, rubons to embellish swag
4) I used my sewing machine to sew the pennant pieces to the ribbon. Tie additional green ribbon to the ends for a color contrast.
