Where Have I Been?

Hi!

I think I was swallowed up big a big whale or so it seems as it's hard somedays to find my way out of this never ending to do list. And sadly, my blog seems to have moved to the end of the list I am sorry to say. Doesn't mean I don't think about it..it just seems to keep getting buried. But I will try to update..even if it's just a short hi. I'll try!

So what's new...working on our kitchen. Realized the idea of replacing all the cabinets, plus new countertops, sink, faucet, lights, backsplash etc etc is beyond what we can afford. So we decided to paint the cabinets and put new hardware on them. We figured that was what would eat up the funds the quickest and doing this might mean we could do some of the other things. So...we headed to Home Depot thinking we'd stain them. I knew I didn't want to, but Scott gives me such a hard time for wanting to paint everything I went along with it. Well when we couldn't find a stain that didn't make me want to lose my cookies..we went for paint. Picked a color..got home. Painted. Realized it was awful. Looked like a melted caramel color. Not a mocha chocolate color. So sent Scott back to the store for a remix. And guess what? It's perfect! And amazingly matches the new tile grout and looks perfect with the new tile floor!

Then we set off for new cabinet hardware. Mind you I used to think brushed nickel. But this kitchen has moved away from that look and now is the rubbed/antique bronze look that is becoming the rage. So we found these amazing Pottery Barnish rubbed/hammered bronze pulls and knobs and suddenly those nasty colored cabinets look like they rolled right off the Thomasville cabinet truck! Here..take a peek...

Now for the top cabinets those are being painted a different color. All the kitchens we've looked at now have 2 or more cabinet colors. So..the top cabinets are being painted a Toasted Almond color(well that is what they called the Thomasville ones I liked) so we matched it up as close as we could. Here's a pick of the work..

The island color is wrong..it will get painted too. But actually we just want to design a whole new one. There's another reason we're painting. I want a cool island..big..huge. One that looks like a piece of furniture. Shelves with pullout baskets and stuff on one side..nice pullout drawers for pots and pans on the other. Something like this...

What do you think?

I think our next step is new counters, new sink and a cool new faucet that matches the cabinet hardware. Then backsplash, removing the big lights, adding crown moulding to the top of the cabinets to extend the line, adding recessed lighting..and on and on. You get it. It never ends does it!

Well I gotta run..I'll take more pictures and share but for now I'll leave you with a picture of the adorable Peso!

How funny is that? Until next time,

Julia
