Conservatives Still Largest Ideological Group In The U.S., Liberals The Smallest

For the third straight year Gallup finds conservative ideology to be the largest group in the U.S. with 40 percent of Americans self identifying as having conservative views. 35 percent of Americans identify as moderate and only 21 percent self identify as liberals.

Gallup also finds that among Democrats, 29 percent consider themselves liberal and only 10 percent say they are "very" liberal". Total: 39 percent of Democrats list themselves as liberal.

51 percent of Republicans consider themselves to be conservative and 20 percent identify as "very" conservative. Total: 71 percent of Republicans list themselves as conservative.


The breakdown for Independents is what should concern Democrats in this election cycle.

Independents -- who make up the largest political group in the country -- have been steadier ideologically than either major party group over the last decade. However, since 2008, the proportion describing themselves as moderate has declined slightly, from 46% to 41%, and the proportion who are conservative has increased slightly, from 30% to 35%.

Currently, the largest segment of independents describe their views as moderate, while significantly more identify as conservative than as liberal, 35% vs. 20%.

Recently a CNN Opinion Research poll found that 50 percent of Americans disapproved of the way Barack Obama has handled his job as president. 38 percent of those that disapprove listed the reason as his being "too liberal" and only 9 percent said he wasn't "liberal enough."

Icing on the cake for Republicans is the recent US News and World Report article that states by 2-to-1 Americans fear an Obama reelection:

As we enter the presidential election year of 2012, what potential news event do you fear the most?

President Obama wins reelection 33%

Taxes will increase 31%

Iran will get a nuclear weapon 16%

Obama will lose reelection 16%

North Korea will attack South Korea 4%

All together: A five percent decrease in moderates coupled with a five percent increase in conservatives added together with another recent Gallup poll showing that Barack Obama is seen as the furthest away from American's ideological views than any of the GOP candidates, and Americans listing an Obama reelection as what they fear most, translates into a huge Democratic headache during this presidential election cycle.

This Is What Is Wrong With Liberals........

Background:

If unemployed workers in South Carolina can’t find a job in six months, they would have to volunteer 16 hours weekly to continue getting benefits from the state under a bill up for debate today by a Senate panel.

Its sponsor, Sen. Paul Campbell, said it’s easier for people to get a job if they have a job of some sort, and his intent is to match people’s skills with work that needs done in city or county governments and schools, from electrical work to assisting in classrooms.

“I just think if someone’s busy working, they’ll be more industrious and more likely to get a job,” said Campbell, R-Goose Creek. “Depending on the skill they’ve got, I think we can put that skill to work. I’m not talking about collecting garbage on the side of the highway.”

To a liberal...... Asking that people actually work 16 hours a week to receive benefits if they have not worked or found a job in six months of receiving benefits.... is "belittling."

As the struggling economy forces more Americans to rely on social aid programs, more and more Republicans are ratcheting up the attacks on those in need. When it comes to unemployment insurance, the party’s presidential candidates, governors, and lawmakers are searching out ways to not only gut the program but belittle vulnerable Americans in the process.

This is what is wrong with liberals. Working 16 mere hours a week, for money the state or federal government gives you, is too much to ask, no they would rather everything be handed out for free.

If Republicans actually dare suggest a person contribute to the community for the money given to them, it is some kind of an "attack".

The Idiocy Of Tom Friedman And His Anti-Semitic Cheerleaders

Right up front, I am an American and I am Jewish, albeit a non-practicing Jew. I support Israel, our ally.

With that said, I do not claim to speak for all Americans nor all American Jews. I leave it to polling organizations to take the temperature of the public and give us snap shots of public opinion on topics of interest.

Anti-Semitism- The belief or behavior hostile toward Jews just because they are Jewish. It may take the form of religious teachings that proclaim the inferiority of Jews, for instance, or political efforts to isolate, oppress, or otherwise injure them. It may also include prejudiced or stereotyped views about Jews.

Browsing political news as I do every morning to see what catches my interest, my eye caught a Washington Post headline by Jennifer Rubin, which stated "Tom Friedman, hitting rock bottom."

I knew I shouldn't have clicked because in my opinion all Friedman's pieces are rock bottom, but my fingers have a mind of their own sometimes, so click I did.

Today’s Tom Friedman’s column has set off a firestorm. Now, he says and writes many wrong-headed things, about China and other dictatorial regimes, primarily. But today he hits rock bottom:

I sure hope that Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, understands that the standing ovation he got in Congress this year was not for his politics. That ovation was bought and paid for by the Israel lobby. The real test is what would happen if Bibi tried to speak at, let’s say, the University of Wisconsin. My guess is that many students would boycott him and many Jewish students would stay away, not because they are hostile but because they are confused.

You see, in Friedman’s eyes, the entire U.S. Congress is bought and paid for by a cabal of Jews.

Yep, I knew I shouldn't have clicked the damn link.

Rubin goes on to quote aides and advisers of both Republican and Democratic members of Congress, who were not happy with Friedman's accusations.

On Capitol Hill, Republicans and Democrats alike were fuming. A senior GOP adviser e-mailed me: “Bibi’s standing ovation in Congress was bought and paid for by the American taxpayers who overwhelmingly support Israel. They vote, they pay our salaries and they stand with Israel. Statements to the contrary can be chalked up to frustrated leftists who can’t understand why they stand alone.”

A Senate aide on the other side of the aisle put it this way: “Today, Tom Friedman did a cheap imitation of [Steven] Walt and [John] Mearsheimer as he charged that the ‘Israel lobby’ bought a congressional ovation for Bibi. If Friedman did actual reporting rather than opining from his anti-Israel perch at the Times, he would have learned that, in an otherwise polarized Congress, there is genuine, bipartisan support for Israel that reflects America’s heartland.”

Back to Memeorandum I went to see the discussions surround the Rubin piece and sure enough the predictable anti-Semitic liberal cheerleaders are out there waving their pom poms.

Before getting into the others that have torn Friedman a new one over his anti-Semitic rhetoric, let me say Tom Friedman has the right to his opinions and enjoys the First Amendment and the right of free speech. He can say anything he wants. His anti-Semitic cheerleaders can also say anything they want because they enjoy the same right of free speech.

So do the rest of us.

Those anti-Semitic liberal cheerleaders don't appreciate being called anti-Semites, in fact, they take offense at the term.

Too bad.

Supporters of Israel don't appreciate their anti-Semitic rhetoric either but we have to see the drivel liberals spew about Israel constantly anyway, so they will just have to deal with being called whatever we call them just as we have to deal with their ignorant rants against Israel.

Elliot Abrams refers to a February 2011 Gallup finding which shows that "about two-thirds of Americans have a favorable opinion of Israel (68%).

More from Gallup:

Republicans continue to be Israel's strongest U.S. supporters: 80% sympathize more with the Israelis in the conflict, substantially higher than the 57% of independents and Democrats sharing this view. A similar pattern is seen by political ideology, ranging from 74% among conservatives to 49% among liberals -- with liberals the least supportive of Israel of any group Gallup measured.

Over the past decade, Republicans have consistently shown greater support than Democrats for Israel; however, the partisan gap has widened, with Republicans becoming even more supportive between 2001 and 2003 and since 2009. Independents' support for Israel also increased to around 60% in recent years, up from 42% in 2001. At the same time, Democrats' support for Israel has been fairly flat.

On to another boneheaded statement by Friedman, one of which is addressed by Jonathan Neumann over at American Thinker:

"America's role," Friedman laments, "is to just applaud whatever Israel does, serve as its ATM and shut up." Since Friedman is unfamiliar with nuance, perhaps we might fill in the gaps: there is a difference between applauding "whatever" an ally does and taking into account, as Romney put it (in an interview Friedman himself quotes), "what our allies think is best." This is, of course, in contrast to the prevailing policy of mistreating our allies and, at best, remaining silent about our adversaries. Judging by his column -- which complains of Israel's American friends but says nothing of how the friends of the Palestinian Arabs are "loving them to death" -- Friedman endorses this current posture.

Meanwhile, the childish notion that Israel views America as its ATM ignores two critical realities: first, the purpose of aid to Israel -- much of which takes the form of loan guarantees -- is variegated, and includes paying off war debts, buying American military wares, bolstering missile defense, funding Israel's unparalleled intelligence contributions to the US, paying for its security expertise, and supporting what is for the US effectively a permanent aircraft carrier without a single American soldier, as well as a significant economic partner. Second, it dismisses Israel's real view of America: as an indispensable friend, without whose support, incidentally, it could not make any territorial or strategic concessions.

Little known and rarely acknowledged by anti-Semites like Friedman and his cheerleaders, is that Israel is highly respected as as innovator in medicine, which not only benefits America but benefits people across the world.

Unlike Elliot Abrams and Rep. Steven Rothman, a New Jersey Democrat, I do not think Friedman owes anyone but the poor saps that trust his opinion and apology because once again, he is entitled to his opinion and to state it.

Just as I won't apologize for my opinion that Friedman and his anti-Semitic cheerleaders are deliberately ignorant and/or intellectually dishonest about Israels many contributions to America and the world.

Thankfully people that think like Friedman are in the minority in this wonderful country.

#OWS News: Police Dismantle Philadelphia, LA Occupier Encampments

In the latest police effort to dismantle unlawful encampments erected by Wall Street Occupiers, Philadelphia and LA police swept through and cleared out the two sites where protesters had recently been set up tents.

Philadelphia:

Police swarmed around City Hall and rousted Occupy Philadelphia protesters from their encampment overnight, more than two days after a deadline passed for them to leave.

The occupiers responded by roaming around Center City, scattering and regrouping with police following their every move in a chaotic night of cat-and-mouse that ended before daylight.

"The Dilworth occupation is over," Mayor Nutter said at a news conference just before 7 a.m.

Crews were using bulldozers and other heavy equipment to clear up debris and fire hoses to wash down the plaza as he spoke.

He called the police operation to clear the plaza "tremendously well planned and executed."

He said at least 50 people were arrested, 44 of them in a 5 a.m. face off on North 15th Street behind the Inquirer and School District buildings.

Los Angeles

Police in riot gear and biohazard suits removed anti-Wall Street activists from an encampment outside the Los Angeles City Hall on Wednesday, arresting an estimated 200 people.

Overnight on the East Coast, about 100 Occupy protesters in Philadelphia swiftly and peacefully vacated their camp but later 52 were arrested around the city on charges ranging from obstructing a highway to aggravated assault on a police officer, officials said.

In Los Angeles, busloads of police closed in on the 8-week-old Occupy LA camp after midnight and declared the hundreds of protesters congregated on the lawn, sidewalks and streets around City Hall to be an unlawful assembly, ordering them to disperse or face arrest, in line with an eviction order from the mayor.

This follows weeks of crackdowns in cities across the country, the most widely publicized was in New York when police evicted Occupiers from Zuccotti Park, where it all started, and a court decided protesters were not legally able to set up encampments in the Park but they were free to protest there as long as they followed Park rules.

There has not been much reported news from that location since the Zuccotti Park Occupiers were disbanded.

No doubt this has been a relief to New York City which the AP has reported $7 million had been spent by taxpayers in "police overtime and other municipal services', all associated with costs to the taxpayers of New York because of the Occupiers.

In Oakland where another highly publicized crack down dismantled their tent city, the city had already had a nearly $58 million budget gap and taxpayers were nailed with $2.4 million responding to the protests.

Without the encampment, SFGate reports that Occupiers have hit their "second phase" which is to "provoke confrontations" in order to stay in the news, but this has "turned off many people who lament the cost of extra policing and the damage done by vandals."

While many liberals have lamented polling that showed the general public agrees with certain concepts generated by the Occupy movement, that has not translated into support for the movement itself because of the constant strife, public reports on death threats from Occupiers and supporters, violence, public urination and defecation by Occupiers, provoked confrontations instigated by Occupiers, unsanitary conditions in which the Occupiers created with their tent cities, diseases running rampant throughout those tent cities, etc...

Mid November the Democratically leaning Public Policy Polling found that 45 percent of voters oppose the Occupiers with 33 percent being supportive of their goals. A month before that PPP found 36 percent opposed and 35 percent were supportive. In just one month, according to the PPP polls, Occupier antics cost themselves 2 percent support and gained themselves 9 percent more opposition.

Two days ago, November 28, 2011, Rasmussen found that 55 percent of likely voters now hold an unfavorable view of the Occupiers, with 39 percent holding a "somewhat favorable view."

Occupiers outstayed their welcome like a house guest that never leaves. The longer they stay the less support they are getting.

According to NYT City Room the number of arrests of Occupy protesters nationwide is now said to be more than 4,500 just a little over 2 months since the protests began.

Nothing "manufactured" about that narrative.

#OWS: November 17, 2011 is the day that Occupiers became terrorists.

Liberals wonder why support for the Occupy Wall Street movement is fading after two months. Some even claim it is because of the negative reporting by the media and claiming that there has been a "Manufactured Narrative," associated with the Occupy movement and the Occupiers participating.

The problem with those excuses are the videos of violence, those aren't fictional, nor manufactured. Rape is real. Disease is real. Violence is real. Death threats are real. Photos of Occupiers defecating in public are real.

November 17, 2011 is the day that Occupiers became terrorists.

The second definition for "terrorist" according to Dictionary.com is:

2. a person who terrorizes or frightens others.

The video below is from yesterday, the so-called "day of action" for the Occupiers and they crossed a line when they deliberately terrorized children. School kids being brought to school as Occupiers kicked, screamed, yelled and chanted "Follow those kids". (Source- CBS New York)

In the middle of thousands of protestors yelling and chanting — some kicking and screaming – CBS 2’s Emily Smith found little school kids trying to get to class. Nervous parents led them through the barriers on Wall Street. The NYPD helped funnel the children, anything to ease their fears while some protestors chanted “follow those kids!”

“These guys are terrorists, yelling at little kids,” one father said.

“For them it’s horrible. They’re afraid of all the crowds. We’re not even able to get through. They’re just, he’s … very afraid now,” a mother added.

One protester followed a father and his little daughter all the way down the block.

The media isn't creating the narrative. The "right" isn't creating the narrative.

The actions of the Occupiers are creating the narrative and the whole world is watching them do so.
