BOEHNER: “Yesterday the House voted to reject the Senate bill and ask for a conference with the Senate where we could resolve the differences between the two houses. I’ve appointed the eight men and women sitting here with the Majority Leader and I to be our negotiators. We’re here. We’re ready to go to work. And we’re hoping that Senate Democrats will appoint negotiators, come to the table, and resolve these differences. I think it’s important to note that the president, bipartisan leaders in the House and bipartisan leaders in the Senate, have all really asked for the same thing over the course of the last several months: let’s extend the payroll tax credit for a year. And all we’re asking for is to get the Senate members over here to work with us to resolve our differences so we can do what everybody wants to do: extend the payroll tax credit for the next year. I’m hoping that they’re ready to work as we are.”

House Votes To Send Payroll Tax Cut Bill To Conference

The House of Representatives passed a motion to send the payroll tax cut issue to conference to be hammered out for passage. Roll call found here.

“The Senate did produce a bill, and today Republicans will move to conference to reconcile the two measures,” the aide said shortly before the vote. “That’s how Congress works, and we see no reason to stray from regular order. This is the system our founders gave us, so let’s take the next 10 days and make it work.”

The Senate passed a two-month extension of the payroll tax on Saturday, and the House passed its own year-long extension last Tuesday.

The Speaker of the House website explains:

As the House continues its pursuit of a full-year extension of payroll tax relief to help families and small businesses today, the two-month extension proposed by Senate Democrats is being called “not workable.” The National Payroll Reporting Consortium, non-partisan tax experts, released a report saying Senate Democrats’ short-term bill could create “substantial problems, confusion, and costs” – more uncertainty – for job creators already struggling in President Obama’s economy. Here’s a look at some of the coverage of their report:

• SHORT-TERM SENATE BILL “NOT WORKABLE”: “As lawmakers fought, payroll specialists told Congress on Monday that the two-month change in Social Security payroll tax rates envisioned in the Senate bill was not workable.” (New York Times, 12/20/11)

• “SUBSTANTIAL PROBLEMS, CONFUSION, & COSTS”: “Pete Isberg, president of the NPRC today wrote to the key leaders of the relevant committees of the House and Senate, telling them that ‘insufficient lead time’ to implement the complicated change mandated by the legislation means the two-month payroll tax holiday ‘could create substantial problems, confusion and costs affecting a significant percentage of U.S. employers and employees.’” (ABC News, 12/19/11)

John Boehner Is Not Supposed To 'Control' GOP House Representatives. That Is NOT His Job Description

One of my biggest complaints when Nancy Pelosi was Speaker of the House is how she would strong arm and force her members to vote for legislation whether they agreed with it or not and whether the vote cast by a particular lawmaker represented the will of his/her constituents or not. She insisted her members vote in favor of what she wanted, what she, Obama and Reid wanted. She forced her members to vote for "party" rather than represent those that elected them.

For example, February 2010, Pelosi was quoted, by multiple media sources as telling her colleagues to back a major overhaul of U.S. health care aka Obamacare, even if it threatens their political careers.

Her comments somewhat echoed those of President Obama, who said at the end of last week's bipartisan health care summit that Congress should act on the issue and let voters render their verdicts. "That's what elections are for," he said.

Obama was right and in November 2010, there was indeed an election, the midterms, and Democrats in the House, lost 63 seats and voters handed control of the House of Representatives to Republicans and fired Nancy Pelosi from her Speaker of the House position.

So, when I read in The Politico a quote from Senator Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.)that says "If Speaker Boehner were fully in charge, we wouldn’t constantly see this kind of brinksmanship, but he doesn’t have control of his troops in the House," I think to myself, damn straight he doesn't "control" the members of the House, that is not his job and thank heavens he is not Nancy Pelosi who thought that was in her job description.

Democrats may be under the impression that their "job" is to walk in total lockstep with their leadership but a member of Congress is elected locally by those he is supposed to represent, not to do as told and not think for themselves.

Boehner's job is Speaker of the House, not dictator, and perhaps Schumer and Democrats should read the job description of Speaker instead of thinking that how Pelosi did things, forcing members to vote against their constituents, is not part of that job description.

The Speaker does, however, typically presides over special joint sessions of Congress in which the House hosts the Senate. The Speaker exerts power over the legislative process by setting the House legislative calendar determining when bills will be debated and voted on. The Speaker often utilizes this power to help fulfill his or her responsibility of making sure bills supported by the majority party are passed by the House. The Speaker also serves as chair of the majority party's House steering committee.

If the party in majority is not supportive of a bill passed by the Senate, or the language used in the bill passed by the Senate, then it is not Boehner's job to force them to go along with it. It is his job to see to it the bill's language becomes language supported by the majority party so it can be passed.

The main role of members of the U.S. House of Representatives is to serve their constituents through the process of writing legislation.

Controlling members of his party is not what John Boehner's job entails, that is what Nancy Pelosi did in her term as Speaker and she was replaced by election and many of those that walked in lockstep with what she ordered them to do, were replaced as well.

Debt ceiling, child support, asthma, and panties.

I see that as of me writing this post, Mr. Tan Man has still not gotten enough votes to pass his debt-ceiling bill. The magic number for Mr. Tan Man is 217. Good luck there buddy. You are going to need it tonight. These tea party wingnuts don't care about little things like the future of our country. I swear, some people sure know how to "snatch defeat from the jaws of victory".

Speaking of tea party wingnuts; yet another one of them has some splainin to do:

"(Reuters) - A Tea Party-backed U.S. Congressman who has lectured the U.S. government about getting its financial house in order owes more than $100,000 in child support payments, a lawyer for his ex-wife said on Thursday.
Illinois Rep. Joe Walsh, who was narrowly elected in a Chicago suburban district during the Republican sweep of 2010, denied the allegations and said he would fight them in court.

His ex-wife Laura Walsh failed to receive full child support for about five years from 2005 to late 2010, her lawyer Jack Coladarci told Reuters.
Walsh resumed full payments to support their three children after he was elected to the Congressional seat, which pays a salary of $174,000 per year, the lawyer said.

"These latest attacks against me are false and I will fight them in the appropriate venue," Walsh said in a statement on his web site, referring to the Cook County courtroom where Laura Walsh brought the case. The divorce documents detailing the apparent delinquent payments were first reported by the Chicago Sun-Times.
The attorney for Laura Walsh said the congressman needs to make good on the $117,437 he owes, plus interest.

"Laura is getting help now because he has a job where we can find him," Coladarci said. "But it is difficult to raise three kids, and she is not remarried, and she is supporting them basically on her salary." [Source]

Mr. Walsh, here is how you fight these attacks: PAY YOUR DAMN CHILD SUPPORT!

I wonder if Governor Krispy Kreme is still thinking about running for President? If he is, he might want to make sure that he works on his asthma problem. Maybe if he would spend a little more time in his state and focus on the people's business he could concentrate on staying healthy.

Finally, why aren't some of you who were up in arms about the TSA agents feeling up grandma not up in arms about this story?

"NEW YORK — A Harlem woman is suing JetBlue Airlines after she was kicked off her Florida-bound flight for allegedly wearing no panties.

Malinda Knowles, 27, said she was in shock when a JetBlue employee put a walkie-talkie between her legs to see if she had on any panties.
“I didn’t want to show him anything. He wanted me to basically show him my crotch. I was completely humiliated. It was vulgar. It was macho. It was rude,” said Knowles, who is 27 years old.

She was escorted off the plane at LaGuardia Airport. She was wearing a baggy blue t-shirt over short denim jeans. She was taken to a hangar, where she lifted up her T-shirt to prove she met the dress code.

“‘Oh, she’s wearing shorts,’” the JetBlue fashion police responded, according to Knowles." [Source]

Poor O, he can't even get these clowns to answer his phone calls these days. Mr. Tan Man walked away from talks on the debt ceiling and it doesn't look like he is coming back anytime soon. He held a press conference tonight and put down a marker on behalf of his wingnut friends.

I guess O thought that he had my man figured out after a few rounds of golf but he was wrong. He will never be able to get into the mind of a wingnut.

O, with all due respect; it's time to double down. Show George Will and others that if this is to be the end of big government we will not go down without a fight. Show them that what the progressive proposes is not "incompatible with economic growth", but by putting people first, it is essential for it to take place.

The people who make up the "entitlement culture" are the fat cats and corporations who have been sucking the life out of this country for their own selfish gains and giving nothing in return. Steve Wynn, for instance, has the nerve to cry a river over Obama's policies hurting his bottom line yet his company had a growth of over 300 million dollars from the same time last year, and his stock prices have more than tripled since 2009. Yeah, some Socialist.

Sorry Mr. Wynn, it seems that the government subsidies Mr. Will complains about has only helped folks like you.

"His problem"!? No Mr. Speaker, it is all of A-merry-ca's problem. But this is what happens when a weasel plays politics and tries to appease the people on the fringes in his party. He didn't want to seem weak, and he wanted to stand up to the big bad beige man in the people's house. So rather than do what's right for the country, we get this "his problem" rhetoric.

Secondly, there are no tax increases on the table, and, thirdly, we have to have real controls in place to make sure this never happens again; real controls like a balanced budget amendment.”

"Never happens again"? Oh that's right, I almost forgot; it happened SEVEN TIMES under the last president, who was a...wait for it.....wait for it....Republican!

Anyway, we have until August 2nd before the s*&^ really hits the fan. That is when our esteemed Treasury Secretary, Timothy (I came from the Bartles & Jaymes charm school) Geithner, says that we won't have any more money available to pay our debts. Not good. So far we have been able to pay them by using "extra ordinary measures". (I think that means borrowing from pension funds and stuff) but for all of you who don't know; we already reached our debt limit back in May.

So here is what we can look forward to if the republiclowns don't get their act together:

The stock market will do a serious Greg Louganis.
There will be hyper inflation so our interest rates will go up and loans and credit will dry up.
Credit drying up is not a good thing. Business will have to lay off folks because they can't get loans from banks to carry out their day to day operations.
The interest rates in your credit cards will go up.
Grandma and grandpa won't get their social security checks.
The folks in the government (including the military) won't get paid.
Planning a vacation this summer? Forget it. Your dollar will be worthless in other countries.

In other words, it will all be just like the republicans want it. How else are they going to get control of the White House?

You know who would make a great porn star? John Boehner. He already knows how to f*&^ people.

Call this the republi-clowns gone wild post. WTF? Republican governors calling the po po idiots, and elected leaders telling the working man that if budget cuts causes him to lose his job, "so be it"? Yes, if you can't feed little Johnny and if you lose that house to foreclosure, it's all on you. You should have started a business when you went into the work force. Busting your ass while serving your government is just no good. Next time become a politician. (Whenever I think of poli-tricksters I think of that song by Dire Straits .)

Here is the thing about John Boehner, though. The man is actually sending about $450 million in earmarked "pork" to his own Ohio district while he gives his cut em high and cut em low speech. (We are talking a million jobs if tan man gets his way.)I swear, if honesty was a bed that man would never sleep. Well, unless it was a tanning bed.

And then there is that other republi-clown from Ohio:

"In a speech last month Ohio Gov. John Kasich emphatically referred to a police officer who ticketed him for a driving violation as "an idiot."

Kasich, now the Republican governor, was ticketed on Jan. 11, 2008, for "approaching a public safety vehicle with lights displayed" on Route 315 in Columbus and later paid an $85 fine. But he was not happy about it.....

"Have you ever been stopped by a police officer that's an idiot," Kasich asked the seated audience, pausing his speech as he moved around the room. "I had this idiot pull me over on 315. Listen to this story. He says to me, he say, uh, he says you passed this emergency vehicle on the side of the road and you didn't yield."

"I said, officer I, are you kidding, I didn't, I didn't see any, I didn't even see any, where the heck was it?" a stammering Kasich recalls. "The last thing I would ever do would be to pass an emergency, are you kidding me?"

Then Kasich stills himself and bellows, "He's an idiot! We just can't act that way. What people resent are people who are in the government who don't treat the client with respect.'" [Source]

Finally, Tucker Carlson joined the wingnuts gone crazy parade by saying that the first lady wants to "raise your children at GUN POINT." To Tucker, there is nothing like a gang banging first lady to scare your children into doing things her way. It's what they do in Chicago. They might be living in the White House, but those two Negroes are still representing the South side.

I want to start this post by making a personal appeal to you Negroes: Please stop with this rumor that John Boehner's mother was a sister and was doing the whole passe blanc thing.

This stuff has been going around on the web for a few days now and it needs to stop. I know he went there first, but let's stop digging into the man's background for (black) skeletons.

Finally, I recently blogged about brothers being able to use public rest rooms here in A-merry-ca, and now it seems that even famous brothers don't get to tinkle when they want to.

"An assistant manager at McDonald's was fired after allowing Minnesota Vikings star Adrian Peterson to use the bathroom while the restaurant was closed.

While working the late-night drive-thru shift at 3 a.m., a female employee encountered a man standing outside the window who asked to come inside and use the restroom. After a little while, she realized it was the popular Minnesota Vikings star and opened the door for him to come inside and use the facilities. (The seating area at the restaurant is normally closed during the late-night hours.)

One week later, the mother of three was fired for the offense.

"He's a public figure... I know him better than some of the maintenance people that come in and out," she told The Consumerist. "I never thought in a million years that that decision was going to cost me my career." [Source]

THE WINGNUTS ARE HERE!

My republi-clown friends left out that little part of the Constitution so I thought I would post it for those of you who are not familiar with that very important document. "Oh field, stop it, there you go being messy again, you know that portion of the Constitution was Amended. It's called the 14th Amendment, field." WHOOPS. Sorry, it was Amended; bad field Negro.

It's just that all this reading of the Constitution by all these strict constructionist made me want to go back to the strictest interpretation of that fine document. As it was originally intended by those who framed it, that's all.

I swear, these newly elected officials are a trip. And why did some of those dumbocrats in Washington even participate in this silly symbolic exercise?

"Some 135 lawmakers from both parties participated in the reading of the document approved in 1787 and in operation since 1789. Leading off was new House Speaker John Boehner, who recited the "We the People" preamble. He was followed by outgoing Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who read Article I, Section 1 that gives legislative powers to Congress.

The document, long a subject both of reverence and wrangling, has never been read in its entirety in the House, and the event, coming on the second day of Republican control of the chamber, was a nod to the tea partiers who returned Republicans to power.

Tea party backers often cited the Constitution in arguing that Washington is ignoring the limits of federal power outlined in the document.

Democrats went along, but before the reading started they asked why Republicans chose to omit sections, including those pertaining to slavery, that were later amended. In particular, they asked about the Article I, Section 2 clause that classified slaves as three-fifths of a person for the purpose of congressional apportionment and taxation.

Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., D-Ill., asked why those elements of American history were being left out, "given the struggle of African-Americans, given the struggle of women."

"We fail to show the American people that imperfection is not to be feared and that our ability to constantly improve on what the Founders gave us is a blessing, not a reason for divisiveness," Black Caucus member Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., said.

Goodlatte said he and others had worked closely with the Library of Congress and the Congressional Research Service in coming up with the most accurate presentation of the Constitution. He noted to Jackson, son of civil rights leader Jesse Jackson, that another pioneer of the civil rights movement, Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga., had been asked to read the 13th Amendment that abolished slavery. " [Source]

Isn't that special? Now that would make for a very nice little bit of symbolism now wouldn't it?

Symbolism is nice, but get with me when stuff like this stops happening in A-merry-ca.

Of course, when half of the people who populate this country dwell in the "Twilight Zone", a more perfect union is going to be that much harder to come by. "except Obama, except Obama"...Oh my! A birther outburst in the congressional chamber. Not surprising given the folks who now occupy most of the seats in that venerable body. The Capitol police removed the wingnut, but I am guessing that most of the elected wingnuts present were secretly saying, yesssss.

"Williams: I'm curious as to how much responsibility you feel specifically because of something that happened this morning. During the reading of the Constitution, Congressman Frank Pallone of New Jersey, was reading a portion of the document, interrupted by someone who heckled from within the chamber. It was to express doubt over the president's American citizenship. Provided you believe the president is an American citizen, you've got 12 members co-sponsoring legislation that does about the same thing, it expresses doubt. Would you be willing to say, "This is a distraction, I've looked at it to my satisfaction. Let's move on"?

Boehner: The state of Hawaii has said that President Obama was born there. That's good enough for me.

Williams: Would you be willing to say that message to the 12 members in your caucus who seem to either believe otherwise or are willing to express doubt and have co-sponsored legislation?

Boehner: Brian, when you come to the Congress of the United States, there are 435 of us. We're nothing more than a slice of America. People come, regardless of party labels, they come with all kinds of beliefs and ideas. Uh it's, it's the melting pot of America. It's not up to me to tell them what to think." [Source]
