A few days ago I was showing you this cute couple that appeared in the window of a downtown Northampton shop.
But today when I went by I found them totally transformed. Now the girl has gone retro with a flower power costume, and the guy is now smooth skinned and looking stereotypically gay. They seem almost respectable.
Must everyone sell out in the end?
"Hungry Hill" is the unofficial name given to what used to be the Irish ghetto in Springfield. As a small boy I lived on Littleton Street, until my parents moved back to their childhood neighborhood of Pine Point. Today Hungry Hill is a largely Hispanic ghetto. Springfield Republican columnist Tom Shea's father was one of the last of the old timers who stayed in Hungry Hill until he died recently.
