Lesson Plan- (Pre K - K): David and Goliath





David and Goliath



Objectives: The children will
- retell the story of David and Goliath
- discuss that we must trust in God to help us



Review:
Prayer and questions from last week’s lesson.



Vocabulary Words:

David and Goliath Word Wall- Word wall templates are large flash card printables that you can hang on the wall to aid children when they are learning or using new vocabulary words.



Plan:


Circle Time:


Read story “David and Goliath” from your own story book. While reading the story do cut outs (Snip-And-Tell Bible Stories by Karyn Henley, page 37 - 39) as the story unfolds.

Then ask some questions from below according to their abilities:

1. What did David look after? (His father’s sheep.)

2. What musical instrument did he play? (A harp.)

3. What did David take to his brothers who were soldiers in King Saul’s army? (Food)

4. What was the giant’s name? (Goliath)

5. The giant shouted to King Saul’s army to send someone to fight him and whoever wins the fight, wins the battle for his whole army. Yes or No (Yes)

6. David put something on but it was too big and heavy for him. What was it? (King Saul’s armor and sword.)

7. When Goliath saw David coming, what did he do? (He made fun of David.)

8. What did David have to fight Goliath with? (His sling and five rocks.)

9. How did David kill Goliath? (The stone from his sling hit Goliath in the middle of his forehead and killed him.)

10. What happened to David when he became a man? (He became the King.)

Introduce movie- Who did David kill with just a stone and a sling?

Veggie Tales: Dave and The Giant Pickle (25 min.) and ask questions:

Note: You can skip Silly Songs with Larry during movie.

Where did Dave live? In Israel.

What was Dave? A shepherd.

Who was attacking the Israelites? The Philistines

Who are the Philistines? They were people who hated the Israelites. They wanted to take their land and make the Israelites their slaves.

Who put an army together to save Israel? King Saul

Who was the Philistine’s strongest man? Goliath

What did Dave bring to the battlefield? Food

Who would fight Goliath? Dave

Who were God’s chosen people? The Israelites.

King Saul game something to Dave. What was it? His armor.

What was wrong with it? His armor was too big for Dave.

How many stones did Dave get? 5 smooth stones.

How did Dave kill Goliath? His sling and a rock that hit him in the middle of his forehead.

Who did Dave trust to help him? God




Crafts:

Introduce craft: Who did David kill with just a stone and a sling?

Copy and paste the Goliath picture on a piece of paper. Have the children color Goliath and cut out. Have each child glue Goliath on a 2 liter soda bottle and roll a small ball at it like bowling. (Students make this game to take home for a craft).
