It's a bird, it's a plane, it's a...(you fill in the blank)

At first glance, I walked right by this rusty old piece. I need to explain that it had gadgets attached to it everywhere as it was an old heater of some kind. It was ugly, but dang, it had potential! With a reciprocal saw I cut all the "guts" out...(and I always say a thank you prayer for no injuries!) Sorry, I have no "before" picture, darn it.

After some heavy cleaning and a few coats of poly, I knew it was ready to be something other than a heater!My fellow Junk Fest sisters know (and by now most of you bloggers!) that I am a wine lover, so I immediately realized wine glass stems would fit perfectly on the top grate, which is removable, by the way. I think it's stinkin' cute! Gotta love rust + glass + wine! ha!
I left on a "handle" for hanging a wine towel...oh, and full wine bottles do nestle nicely on the top grate also. (The silver deal is an old cheese grater on its' side).

See, the top is removeable...The beauty of many pieces sold at Junk Fest is they usually have many different purposes. We try and indicate all options for a piece on the back of our sale tags. Lynette started that and it was a fab idea! We really want you to love each and every piece and never get tired of your purchases! So, with that said, my initial thought was to make a potting stand out this rusty stand, like this:It's neat that way too, don't you think? One last thing, I covered the bottom with old yellowed pages from a dictionary just to jazz it up a bit...

Dang it...maybe it's a keeper!? Naw, just kidding! You'll find this one-of-a-kind piece for sale at Junk Fest...Saturday, September 12th! Oh, and who knows, it will probably be displayed WITH A WHOLE NEW PURPOSE! Gosh, I wish I could quit my day job...THIS is too much fun!

To WINE or not to WHINE?

Yes, this winter really stinks up here in Central North Dakota. The weather is all everyone seems to be talking about and yes, WHINING about. On my drive home from work, it actually got me to thinking about another kind of whine…oh yes, baby, the much better kind spelled W-I-N-E…it always cheers me up!

As some of you blog readers know, Lynette and I started out together as junking partners-in-crime before Junk Fest was “founded” by her, me, Cassie and Missy. Lynette previously blogged on this site about a fabulous wine cart we created together, both LOVED and ultimately sold. Damn, why did we sell it? It was truly a “one-of-a-kind”. Yeah, there have been things sold we do regret. Especially alot of of our wine creations. Shown here are a few other wine items sold at Junk Fest…just call it looking back at a few wine memories...



Here's an awesome wine cork frame created by Lynette a couple years ago. That's a wine label in the middle.





This piece, believe it or not, was an old dilapidated dresser ready for the wood pile. Missy transformed it into a wine cabinet...amazing save, huh?!



Yes, wine items are a hot ticket at our annual Junk Fest sales...and that's NOTHING to whine about! Cheers!

Wine, candles, and thingamabobs...

Who said you can't hang a chandelier over a basket of potatoes? I thinks I can! And I did!

I have this cutsie metal cart in my kitchen that serves as my "wine central". Complete with a minnow bucket that chills the wine nicely when filled with snow, (no lack of snow here right now) a wood tray turned chalkboard, a rusty pulley (there for no reason other than I love rusty stuff), a wood toolbox turned wine glass caddy, and some thingamabobs.

You know, THINGAMABOBS. Those cute little vintage receipt holders that you could poke your eye out with. Two of the thingamabobs are holding wine charms, and the third is holding a copy of a cherished photo. I've added wine corks to the tops of course, so I don't poke my eye out!

Under the metal cart is a rusty metal basket that works perfect for potatoes and onions.

On a recent trip to a Grand Forks antique store I found the neatest candle chandelier...and I don't care if it's replica or genuine....cause it's CUTE! Hung it with an old metal bracket, added some votives (what I had on hand), and viola! There's just nothing like "junking" up a house!!

Andrea and I joined this piece together a long time ago. We sold it at the Shady Hollow Flea Market in Detroit Lakes. A lady fell in love with it as soon as she saw it! We held it for her while she ran to get her husband...then, you guessed it, he tried to talk her out of buying it!

Well, we explained to him that it was inexpensive,unique and portable...it made his wife happy AND it held wine for gosh sakes. He wouldn't budge. SO, WE TOLD HIM THE TRUTH: ....that men really weren't allowed at our booth!! She smiled, paid us, and happily carried it away.

Men...they usually don't get the junk culture, but you gotta love em anyway! Lynette
