Summer Wine Storage

Good morning junkers! My junk buddie, Cassie, gave me this awesome colored hose reel for my birthday last year! She knows me well as I have Robin's egg blue as an accent color in my family room. When summer finally rolled around, I decided to bring this cutie upstairs to use for wine storage. A little re-purpose, so to speak. It worked great for keeping bottles close at hand when friends popped in for a visit.And since I have a little blue in the dining room, it matched well with the rug under the table.

I refuse to think summer is over just because school has started again! We up here in the North are praying the remainder of our summer days are warm and dry. How about we toast to it?!

Hello everyone! Thought I'd share a few junky, funky, repurposed ways to display your favorite wine collections! Here are a few show-&-tell wine creations of mine. This first one was an old three drawer oak dresser. It was quite unsturdy, but nothing that a bottle of glue wouldn't take care of. There was no hope for saving the damaged top drawer, but that was okay since I had other plans for that space...After I said bye-bye to the top drawer, I added a board along with a trim piece on the front to cover up the space between it and the middle drawer. I covered the board with some scrapbooking paper (I love its faded old look), along with a rusty flat grate for holding bottles so they don't roll around. I decided to make this piece a two-tone color, if you will. I mixed black paint and a walnut stain together with some glaze and painted the body. I decided to stain the two drawer fronts a light walnut so the vinyl letters would be visable. My sister-in-law gave me this neat vinyl saying for Christmas, and I decided to put it on this "new" wine buffet rather than adhere it on my dining room wall. Another thing I like about turning old dressers into wine buffets is 99% of them are on wheels...don't you just love wheels?

This next wine display is a re-post, but I thought I'd show it again. Here's a perfect example of thinking outside the box. Let's face it, if you look carefully, you will find almost anything can hold wine accessories! This piece was an old heater...crusty, rusty and cruddy - yum, yum! I cut all the extra components off and was excited to find the top grate was removable.

Low and behold, wine glass stems and the neck bottles nestled perfectly on the grate. I attached old pages from a yellowed, damaged dictionary to add some interest to the bottom shelf and hung a wine towel...perfection!And last...I acquired another old oak (very heavy) dresser which I painted a great avocado green.

After painting, I sanded the piece and applied two coats of a polystain. To add a new twist, I decided diamond shaped openings cut in the bottom drawer to house wine bottles would be just the right look. Lots of storage in this piece.

White Wednesday

It certainly appears everyone enjoyed the pictures Cassie posted last Wednesday...White Wednesday. Yes, they were grand! I told her I'd give it a try this week even though I don't have nearly the neat white collections she does (nor can I take such great pictures as she does - holy smokes girl, good job!) I do have a love for white though and it can be found throughout my house. So, here goes...

White candles...I love 'em...

I bet you can't believe I haven't been kicked out of the house for dragging all this chippy stuff in, huh?! I know, me either, but what's not to love?!!

Oh, yes. If it's white and not chippy then it's white and dusted with a tad bit of rust! Ha! I've posted some of my lamp bases before...wait till you see what I do with them for Christmas...!

And, just to see if you're paying attention, there's alot of WHITE WINE in my house too! Ha! But you knew that about me already, didn't you?! LOL! Happy White Wednesday!

Repurpose/Reuse/Recyle...Junk Girl style!

While antiquing in Bozeman, Montana last week on vacation, I found this perfectly rusted croquet set on cute little wheels that was sturdy as heck. My first thought was the frame would be adorable at Christmas with a pretty wreath on it as a "welcome" in my back entry. I've got a couple floor-standing wreath holders, but this would be a unique one, don't ya think?

But wait!! Since Christmas is months away, I couldn't bare to leave it sitting idle. So, I filled a clear glass cylinder vase with hydrangeas purchased some time ago, slid it in where the balls would go, (can you believe the vase fit perfectly!), threw on a garden seed embroidered towel for some color and filled a decorative sash with sunflower seeds. I've got quite a collection of old flash cards and picked a couple that go perfectly with this spring/summer theme...

Hey, it just hit me!...this would be cuter than crap in my half bath as a magazine holder...gotta go see how that would look...signing off for now! Happy Junking!
