'Irresponsible and Unpatriotic': National Debt Rises More In 3 Yrs Under Obama Than 8 Under Bush

By Susan Duclos

Obama Flashback - On July 3, 2008 -- the day before Independence Day -- Barack Obama said that adding $4 trillion in debt was irresponsible and "unpatriotic. (Video below)

Yesterday we covered the new RNC ad called "Mountain of Debt" and the links to data and news articles reflecting how our national debt has risen exponentially under Barack Obama in the three years he has held the office of president.

Today, CBS News confirms that officially the national debt has risen more in the three years under Obama than it did in the eight years under George Bush.

The Debt rose $4.899 trillion during the two terms of the Bush presidency. It has now gone up $4.939 trillion since President Obama took office.

The latest posting from the Bureau of Public Debt at the Treasury Department shows the National Debt now stands at $15.566 trillion. It was $10.626 trillion on President Bush's last day in office, which coincided with President Obama's first day.

The National Debt also now exceeds 100% of the nation's Gross Domestic Product, the total value of goods and services.

In response to the video above, if it is alright for Barack Obama to say that adding $4 trillion in debt over 8 years is "irresponsible" and "unpatriotic", then what is it when Obama adds $4.939 trillion in just three years?

[Update] Via Andrew Malcolm at Investors Business Daily we see that Obama "publicly urged and chastised the Republican-controlled House for not yet passing -- wait for it -- yes, another spending bill, this one on transportation."

[Update #2] Great minds think alike!

Obama Media Scrubs 'Malia Spring Break In Mexico' Story At The Behest Of White House

By Susan Duclos

Seems reports by AFP, Huffington Post, Daily Mail, Telegraph and Australian about Malia Obama on Spring Break vacation in Oaxaca, Mexico have been disappearing down the rabbit hole either rerouting the article URLs to other stories, main pages or simply giving 404 errors.

The original IBTimes article can be found HERE.

TheBlaze has captured screen shots of the before and after pages in question.

The Politico email the White House to find out why:

UPDATE: Kristina Schake, Communications Director to the First Lady, emails to confirm this was a White House effort:

From the beginning of the administration, the White House has asked news outlets not to report on or photograph the Obama children when they are not with their parents and there is no vital news interest. We have reminded outlets of this request in order to protect the privacy and security of these girls.

While children should be off the list of attacks, the stories themselves never attacked Malia, merely provided information on yet another taxpayer funded vacation for an Obama.

25 Secret Service men had to be sent with Obama's eldest daughter, they have to eat, need lodgings, the plane trips to and from Mexico and all the extras that go with a member of the first family traveling, and after the Obama's $4 million Hawaii Christmas vacation, then Michelle and the kids heading to Aspen just weeks later for a skiing vacation, in some minds this story is a "vital news interest", especially in the context of the out-of-control vacationing and spending by the Obama's when the country's national debt is over $15 trillion and rising.

What makes this even more a story now is how the Obama media will instantly scrubs stories that the White House asks them to.

Makes me wonder how many other little vacation trips were never reported. Makes it hard to keep the list of Obama vacations updated if the mainstream media acts like a state run media and scrubs or doesn't report anything Obama doesn't want reported.

[Update] Now the scrubbing Malia's Oaxaca, Mexico story is being scrubbed. Via Buzzfeed:

The item, first posted last night by Politico's Dylan Byers, originally noted that news sites were removing the Malia story.

Then, this morning, the post was updated with comment from the White House confirming that it was involved with efforts to remove the story — but the Politico post itself was now missing information about the trip. Specifically, the current version of the story makes no reference to where the president's daughter is going: Mexico, which can also be found by Googling Obama's daughter's name and "trip."

Rachel Smolkin, Politico's White House editor, confirmed that they removed the information after talking to the Obama administration, citing safety concerns.

"After some internal discussions and conversations with the White House, we adjusted the post for security reasons," Smolkin told BuzzFeed.

Video- Since Obama Took Office, The National Debt Has Increased By Over $4.9 Trillion

By Susan Duclos

Since Barack Obama took office he has added $4.9 trillion in new debt which is more than any other president in America's history.

The RNC has released a video called "Mountain of Debt", shown below:

Backing up the numbers shown in the video, RNC research has provided links to data from the U.S. Treasury Department, U.S. Census Bureau, the Bureau Of Economic Analysis, Congressional Budget Office (CBO). They have also pointed to multiple fact checking organization which back up their assertions and major media links from CBS News, Washington Post, Bloomberg, The Politico, Associated Press, USA Today and The Hill.

Additionally, quotes are provided from Obama himself via press conference and with video.

Details and links below:

OBAMA HAS ADDED $4,937,932,842,854.90 TO THE NATIONAL DEBT IN LESS THAN FOUR YEARS, MORE THAN ANY OTHER PRESIDENT IN U.S. HISTORY

Since Obama Took Office, The National Debt Has Increased By Over $4.9 Trillion, An Increase Of Over 46 Percent. ( U.S. Treasury Department , Accessed 3/15/12)

  • The National Debt Is Now $15,564,809,891,767.90 , $133,356 For Every Family In The Nation. ( U.S. Treasury Department , Accessed 3/15/12; U.S. Census Bureau , Accessed 3/15/12)
  • Obama Is Responsible For “The Most Rapid Increase In The Debt Under Any U.S. President.” “The latest posting by the Treasury Department shows the national debt has now increased $4 trillion on President Obama’s watch. The debt was $10.626 trillion on the day Mr. Obama took office. The latest calculation from Treasury shows the debt has now hit $14.639 trillion. It’s the most rapid increase in the debt under any U.S. president.” (Mark Knoller, “National Debt Has Increased $4 Trillion Under Obama,” CBS News , 8/22/11)

Politifact: “Obama Is The Undisputed Debt King Of The Last Five Presidents.” “So by this measurement — potentially a more important one — Obama is the undisputed debt king of the last five presidents, rather than the guy who added a piddling amount to the debt, as Pelosi’s chart suggested.” (“Nancy Pelosi Posts Questionable Chart On Debt Accumulation By Barack Obama, Predecessors,” Politifact , 5/19/11)

The Washington Post ’s Fact Checker: Obama’s Record On The Debt “Looks Pretty Bad For Obama After Not Even Three Years In Office.” “If the chart were recast to show how much the debt went up as a percentage of GDP, it would look pretty bad for Obama after not even three years in office. In fact, Obama does almost twice as poorly as Reagan - and four times worse than George W. Bush.” (Glenn Kessler, “A Bogus Chart On Obama And The Debt Gets A New Lease On Life,” The Washington Post ‘s The Fact Checker , 9/29/11)

  • WaPo : “[Obama’s] Record On The Growth Of National Debt Is The Worst Of Recent Presidents.” “But the fact remains that under basic economic measures, not phony ones, his record on the growth of the national debt is the worst of recent presidents.” (Glenn Kessler, “A Bogus Chart On Obama And The Debt Gets A New Lease On Life,” The Washington Post ‘s The Fact Checker , 9/29/11)

In 2008, Obama Called Adding $4 Trillion To The National Debt “Unpatriotic”

In 2008, Obama Said Adding $4 Trillion To The National Debt Was “Irresponsible. It’s Unpatriotic.” OBAMA: “The problem is, is that the way Bush has done it over the last eight years is to take out a credit card from the Bank of China in the name of our children, driving up our national debt from $5 trillion for the first 42 presidents - #43 added $4 trillion by his lonesome, so that we now have over $9 trillion of debt that we are going to have to pay back — $30,000 for every man, woman and child. That’s irresponsible. It’s unpatriotic.” (Sen. Barack Obama, Remarks At A Campaign Event, Fargo, ND, 7/3/08)

OBAMA PROMISED TO CUT THE DEFICIT IN HALF BUT INSTEAD RACKED UP THREE RECORD DEFICITS

PROMISE: Obama Pledged To Cut The Deficit In Half By The End Of His First Term. OBAMA:”And that’s why today I’m pledging to cut the deficit we inherited by half by the end of my first term in office.” (President Barack Obama, Remarks At The Fiscal Responsibility Summit , Washington, D.C., 2/23/09)

  • “President Barack Obama Plans To Cut The U.S. Budget Deficit To $533 Billion By The End Of His First Term …” (Hans Nichols, “Obama Plans To Reduce Budget Deficit To $533 Billion By 2013,” Bloomberg , 2/21/09)
  • One White House Official Told Politico “We’ll Cut It At Least In Half.” “Under White House projections, this year’s inherited budget deficit of $1.3 trillion will be cut to $533 billion by fiscal year 2013, the end of the first term. ‘So we’ll cut it at least in half,’ the official said.” (Mike Allen, “Obama Vows To Cut Huge Deficit In Half,” Politico , 2/22/09)
  • President Barack Obama Reaffirmed His Pledge To Halve The Deficit In 2011. OBAMA:”And that’s what we’ve done with this year’s budget. When I took office, I pledged to cut the deficit in half by the end of my first term. Our budget meets that pledge and puts us on a path to pay for what we spend by the middle of the decade.” (President Barack Obama, Press Conference , Washington, D.C., 2/15/11)

FAIL: Politifact : “Obama Made A Pledge To Cut The Deficit In Half By The End Of His First Term. And He’s Falling Short So Far.” (Gregory Trotter, “Tim Pawlenty Says President Obama Is Going To Break Promise On Deficit And Will Double It,” Politifact , 6/10/11)

That Would Mean Four Straight Years Of Trillion-Dollar-Plus Deficits.” (Martin Crutsinger, “The Fight Begins: Obama’s Budget Going To Congress,” The Associated Press , 2/12/12)

Obama Will Fall “Far Short Of His Goal To Halve The Deficit In Four Years.” “President Obama’s proposed 2013 budget will forecast a $901 billion deficit for next year, falling far short of his goal to halve the deficit in four years.” (Richard Wolf, “Obama Budget To Miss Deficit Goal,” USA Today ‘s The Oval , 2/10/12)

  • “The Budget Will Show A Higher Deficit This Year Than In 2011.” “The budget will show a higher deficit this year than in 2011, up from $1.3 trillion to $1.33 trillion. And the projected decline to $901 billion in 2013 is dependent on enactment of the president’s policies, including spending reductions agreed to last summer and ending George W. Bush’s tax cuts for the wealthy at the end of this year.” (Richard Wolf, “Obama Budget To Miss Deficit Goal,” USA Today ‘s The Oval , 2/10/12)

President Obama Has Racked Up The Three Largest Deficits In U.S. History. “The U.S budget deficit for fiscal year 2011 is $1.299 trillion, the second largest shortfall in history. The nation only ran a larger deficit for the 2009 fiscal year, which included the dramatic collapse of financial markets and a huge bailout effort by the government.”(Erik Wasson, “Treasury Announces 2011 Deficit Is Second Highest In History,” The Hill’ s On The Money , 10/14/11)

  • FY2009: The Federal Budget Deficit Was $1.413 Trillion, The Highest In U.S. History. (“Monthly Budget Review: November 2011,” Congressional Budget Office , 11/7/11)
  • FY2011: The Federal Budget Deficit Was $1.299 Trillion, The Second Highest In U.S. History. (“Monthly Budget Review: November 2011,” Congressional Budget Office , 11/7/11)
  • FY2010: The Federal Budget Deficit Was $1.294 Trillion, The Third Highest In U.S. History. (“Monthly Budget Review: November 2011,” Congressional Budget Office , 11/7/11)

The FY2012 Projected Deficit Is “Still Higher Than Any Deficit Between 1947 And 2008.”

“As a percentage of the overall economy, the projected deficit of 7% is ‘nearly 2 percentage points below the deficit recorded in 2011, but still higher than any deficit between 1947 and 2008,’ the report says.” (David Jackson, “CBO: $1.1T Deficit, At Least 8% Jobless Rate This Year,” USA Today ‘s The Oval, 1/31/12)

Obama's Polling Woes: Voters Believe His Policies Will Increase Debt, Unemployment And Gas Prices

By Susan Duclos

The Hill conducted a poll of likely voters which found a majority, 58 percent, of likely voters believe that Barack Obama's policies will cause gas prices to continue to rise.

62 percent also believe Obama's policies will increase the national debt.

A plurality, 46 percent to 36 percent believe Obama's policies will also result in the U.S. becoming more dependent on foreign oil and by 48 percent to 38 percent voters also see Obama's policies increasing joblessness rather than putting people back to work.

Another finding from The Hill Poll:

Half of likely voters expect the Supreme Court to strike down President Obama’s signature healthcare law, and strong majorities see other major policies coming from the White House making life more difficult for themselves and the country, according to this week’s The Hill Poll.

The poll indicated that 49 percent of likely voters said they expect a court ruling that is unfavorable to the Affordable Care Act, while just 29 percent think it will be upheld and 22 percent aren’t sure.

These numbers confirm a pattern seen last week when a Washington Post-ABC News Poll found that majorities either "somewhat" or "strongly" disapprove of Obama's job performance on gas prices (65 percent), the federal budget deficit (62 percent) and the economy (59 percent).

A day later in a separate CBS News/New York Times, they found that Obama's overall approval rating had hit the lowest level ever in CBS News polling.

Knowing the rising gas prices are hurting his reelection campaign as well as his fundraising efforts, Barack Obama has been going across the country making claims about our oil supply that information from the Energy Information Administration, Department of Energy, Rand Corporation, U.S. Geological Survey, Bureau of Land Management, and the Institute for Energy Research, all prove demonstratively false.

(The facts and figures found in a previous Wake up America piece found HERE, which shows that we have 60 times the amount of resources than what Obama claims on the campaign trail, and more on our renewable resources found HERE, by guest contributor Greg Lewis.)

Recent polling as evidenced by The Hill, CBS/New York Times, and Washington Post/ABC News, all linked above, shows that Americans see Obama's policies as harmful to the country. The national debt is over $15 trillion, gas prices are soaring, and unemployment is still over 8 percent nationally with the U6, the real unemployment being closer to 15 percent and even when the "official" unemployment numbers fall a percent it is documented as being caused by people leaving the work force rather than being put to work.

Obamacare which in 2009, Barack Obama went before congress and said, "[T]he plan I’m proposing will cost around $900 billion over 10 years," (via White House website), now is estimated by the Congressional Budget Office to cost $1.76 trillion over a decade.

The Supreme Court hears arguments against the constitutionality of Obama at the end of this month with a ruling expected in June or early July, and not only does The Hill find that half of likely voters expect the Court to strike it down, but in February 2012, Gallup found that 72 percent of Americans believe the individual mandate- the government’s requirement for Americans to purchase health insurance — is unconstitutional.

Even among those that thought the healthcare law was a good thing, 54 percent believe the individual mandate is unconstitutional, with a majority of Democrats, 56 percent, saying it is unconstitutional.

[Update] ABC News/Washington Post finds that Americans oppose Obamacare "overall by 52-41 percent. And 67 percent believe the high court should either ditch the law or at least the portion that requires nearly all Americans to have coverage." [End Update]

Every issue The Hill polled, gas prices, dependence on foreign oil, joblessness, Obamacare, and the national debt, Americans are finding Obama's policies to be making things worse, not better.

Americans are not looking for a "silver bullet", they are looking for policies that will eventually turn this country in a different direction and towards a balanced budget, lower gas prices, less spending, a constitutionally solid solution to healthcare costs, and towards energy independence.

The exact opposite of what Americans are saying they see with Obama's policies.
