Flowing with the Go

A little while ago, I wrote about how I can obsess about solving problems and coming up with solutions and that instead I decided to let go and let the Universe offer some guidance. Well, did she ever. I thoroughly believe that we are consistently getting messages from the Universe. We just have to find our own way of listening.

One of the things I had been struggling with was what to focus on in terms of my business right now. As a woman with more ideas than I know what to do with, I was looking for some guiding light to set priorities by, something that both stirred my soul and would clearly serve and speak to my clients and my tribe.

So, I went to the bookstore to look for some magazines for my June Dreamboard. I wandered around looking at all sorts of different magazines, and there it was on the cover of Psychology Today: "Dare to Be Yourself," living an authentic life. Aha, eureka and all that jazz. In that moment I was reminded of how I always say the only reason we're here is to be ourselves. I realized that the people who are doing professional and personal work that I admire are all about authenticity. Heck, I have a picture by my desk that literally says, "Dare to be yourself"!

Clearly, this wasn't discovering something new. It was seeing something that was so core to my self, my work and my purpose that I wasn't actually conscious of it. Thank you, Universe, for the eye-opener!

In addition to this powerful aha, since I decided to stop pushing and decided to be more open to what was around me, a world of opportunity has opened up. I've had a new client show up out of the blue, made new and interesting connections and had several offers to collaborate on really exciting projects. There was lots of go to flow with!

And beneath it all, the personal call to me, the one that whispers gently and confidently in my ear, "Dare," is the clear and undeniable fact that I am deeply connected to the Universe and the work I do is soul work. Woo-woo or not, that's me, that's my worldview, and that's the way I'm living my life when I am the most joyful, the most powerful and the most myself.

Is it really wool or cotton yarn?

Read the label. What says cotton or wool yarn may not be so much. Why is this important?
because if you are going to be dyeing or felting it makes all the difference. Of course I have learned the hard way. Just because it says alpaca doesn't necessarily mean that it is 100 percent. It may be 20 percent and the rest acrylic and that will not felt.

Same with the cottons just because it says it is cotton yarn it might be only 20 percent maybe less and the rest acrylic and if you are looking to dye either the cotton or wool you will be disappointed in the end. So once again read the label

There is a lot of work involved in wanting a felted item and quite disappointing to knit or crochet something, wash in hot water just waiting for the felting process and you pull it out and nothing magic has happened.

So when I am wanting to felt an item or dye my yarn I read those labels.

Project 365 ~ Week 24

On Saturday I went to a really interesting workshop called House Heal by Sara Brown Crowder. Sara and I are both a part of the Riverdale Area Workshop Network. The workshop gave me a lot to think about in terms of my relationship with our house.

On Sunday my brother came into town - yay! We had a brunch at our place to belatedly celebrate his birthday and catch up since we don't see each other nearly enough. He's just at the edge of defending his thesis and soon will be Dr. Jay.

Duelling cameras! In our family, the cameras always come out! That's Shannon and my Mom over there going the other direction on the subway.

Justin snapped this shot of me, Jason and his girlfriend, Erin, as we were waiting for the subway.

Monday was a heavy-duty work day. The rain abounded, but I sure got lots done!

Tuesday I went to my naturopath. I'm rocking it out in the healing department!

Wednesday was our last Nia class of the season. We said goodbye to the space we've been teaching in, the Chapel, and came here to the Dance Studio to say hi and let the space know we'd be there in September. Isn't it inviting?

It was a really long week, so Thursday Justin and I treated ourselves and went out to dinner at our favourite local. Even though they are breaking with tradition and not having apricot beer this summer, we still had a good time.

Friday night Shannon and I had a fun time at Value Village. I assure you we came home with considerably less than this!

When I got home it was such a treat to see my hydrangeas blooming beautifully in the backyard.

Project 365 is my attempt to capture a year in my life through a photograph a day. On Saturday's I'll post the week's pics. At the end of the year, I'll create a video of all these precious moments. Feel free to participate at any time. Yours can be Project 347 or Project 292. It's up to you.

Loose Tooth

No..mine aren't loose thank goodness! But Parker has had a loose front tooth for quite some time. He has refused Scott's help getting the tooth out and because of this..gone around for a while with it loose..but not loose enough. He's turned down corn on the cob and other things that might make it wiggle and bother him. He has not wanted it to fall out for fear I guess of it hurting.

Well..it's out!LOL Wednesday while swimming I guess he bumped it and came in all upset because it was bleeding. I got Scott and you should have seen the look on Parker's face when he realized Dad was going to have to give it a bit of a pull. WOW..not a happy moment for him. But thankfully Scott did it quick(definitely not my cup of tea!) and Parker now has a HUGE HUGE gap on the front top row!

And would you believe that the loss of this tooth perfectly coincided with baseball picture night?! HA That's just how it works isn't it?!!

He still looks as cute as can be to me..tooth or no tooth!!

So what else is new you ask? Well I have some big news..but you'll have to wait until Monday for that. Just a hint..it has to do with Bo Bunny!! And I am so excited! Be sure to check in here Monday!! Oh and I said I'd share some cards I made. Here's one I made for a friend's daughter's High School Graduation party last weekend.

and here's for another friend's daughter..

Both cards used the Making Memories 5th Avenue Line, Bo Bunny Double Dot ribbon, Paper Salon Graduate stamps. And the second used the Fiskars Threading Water punch.

That's it for today..happy Friday to you!!!

Cameras & Sex in the City

I bet that title got your attention didn't it? Well...let's start with the camera..because well there's much to say about Sex and The City!!

First...I've got a new pocket camera!! I've for some time now really wanted a small camera that you could just literally slip into your pocket. I wanted it to be a top notch camera..large screen, long digi zoom, high in the megapixels and be made by either Canon or Nikon. And well since I've had 3 Canon's now..it was time to step onto the Nikon train. Enter the Nikon S550...

Here's a little bit about it:

This stylish, ultra-compact model offers high resolution, a bright 2.5-inch LCD monitor and a 5x Nikkor zoom lens. Electronic VR Image Stabilization and extended light sensitivity settings up to ISO 2000 furnish sharper images, especially in low light conditions or when capturing moving subjects. Nikon's Face-Priority AF automatically finds and focuses on up to 12 faces within one frame. Smile mode automatically fires the shutter when the subject smiles and can provide a Blink Warning if the subject has blinked. In-Camera Red-Eye Fix automatically detects and corrects red eye. D-Lighting corrects excessive backlight or insufficient flash.

This little beauty has everything I wanted and the ability to let me know if someone in the photo blinked! Can you believe that!? I love it! It's slim, lightweight, 10 megapixel, easy to use and best of all...takes fantastic pictures. So this is my new best friend that will be going on the trip with us! I can't wait!!

And onto another way fun topic..Sex and the City Movie!!

I was looking so forward to hanging out with my sweet friend Deidre and getting to go see the movie.

That to me is a perfect date night! Thanks for going with me Deidre..it was so fun!

I told Deidre ahead of time I had kleenex with me just in case..well we needed them. I'll admit..I loved the movie! Loved it! It was just like watching an extended version of the show. It really felt like that to me. It seemed kind funny to be sitting in a theatre watching it when normally I would be at home on my couch. That part of watching it I missed. But that's the only thing as to me the movie did NOT disappoint! In fact I loved it so much I could have easily sat for another 2 1/2 hours reliving it. And I definitely would like to go see it again.

I don't want to give anything away..but I will say the Vivienne Westwood wedding dress

took my breath away and the part where Big is getting out of the limo to get Carrie and Charlotte looks at him and said no ..that's where I totally lost it! And well in the church when Carrie had to leave..wow! As far as funny..well it never disappoints and I really love Samantha! She's so darn funny and the fact that she only looked at Dante and didn't "touch" wow!!!! Charlotte..you win for the best IBS moment!!!!!!!!!OMG

It was so fun to watch and well I picked up Season One over the weekend to rewatch. I'm going to watch all the seasons all over to get my fill again. I actually forgot that Samantha hit on Big and he turned her down! Funny! I'm so glad we got to go and I definitely say in my book..

it's an A+++++.

So that's it for today..cameras and sex...definitely one potent combo!LOL Check back in tomorrow for some new cards I made..although that will definitely seem rather dull after today's topic!LOLOL

Teaching a polymer clay class

This was so much fun. Our local yarn shop Knit Picky is haveing a camp this summer and I had the pleasure of teaching there today. We made our own knitting needles with polymer clay topers and they did an amazing job. I love the creativity and imagination of children because they will just go and make the greatest things. I look forward to my next class in July.

After the class I went and had a nice lunch with my son Jason. Now it is relax time.

Project 365 ~ Week 23

Last Saturday Justin & I went to visit his mom. I caught this wonderful moment when we were taking her little dog, Lisa, for a walk.

Sunday was cleaning and some time in teh garden where I discovered my peony had bloomed for the first time!

Poor Jinx wasn't thrilled to go for her yearly checkup this week. But she made it through - what a trooper.

The full moon arrived, so it was time to participate in Suzie's Dreamboard activity.

I went out for breakfast with a dear friend of mine and her wee one to a cool little spot called Morning Glory. Shockingly I forgot my camera so I, um, borrowed this pic from them. Thank you to all the lovely people here for being stand-ins. I really appreciate it.

My collage of the day. When I decided to open up to the Universe for guidance, amazing things began.

There's a new farmer's market in our neighbourhood. And as if the peony in our backyard wasn't glorious enough, look at these! We left the market with pear jam, pie and peonies! Today was sponsored by the letter P.

Justin snuck a picture when we were watching 1408. I am not so good with scary movies! Jinx doesn't seem bothered though.

It's always awesome finishing off the week with my sister Shannon. This week we went out for a yummy dinner. I even indulged in dessert - outrageous!

Project 365 is my attempt to capture a year in my life through a photograph a day. On Saturday's I'll post the week's pics. At the end of the year, I'll create a video of all these precious moments. Feel free to participate at any time. Yours can be Project 347 or Project 292. It's up to you.

Up close and personal with the bee balm

I planted this last year in hopes of attracting butterflies and maybe even a humming bird.

I love the pretty red tubular petals of this flower and it goes so well with my cone flowers and my butterfly bush. Yesterday while I was setting close by I saw a beautiful orange butterfly come by for food. As I set and watched I just had to go inside for my camera. Now I didn't get the butterfly, perhaps another day I did grab my micro lenses and decided to get up close and personal with the bee balm. I really like what I saw. I love photographing flowers and really getting into the flower to see all of it's beauty.

Stolen Art Watch, Bill Reid Heist, Danger of Danegeld !! Updated !

BILL REID ARTWORK

No new tips on missing art
MARSHA LEDERMAN
June 18, 2008

VANCOUVER -- The RCMP say no new tips have come in since they appealed last week for the safe return of two missing Bill Reid artworks, after the theft last month at Vancouver's Museum of Anthropology.

Constable Annie Linteau says investigators have received no new information from the public, despite an appeal by police for information on the two missing pieces - a gold eagle brooch and an argillite pipe panel.

Meanwhile, a media report suggests charges may never be laid in the case.

According to the CBC, a deal was worked out with the suspects, offering immunity or at least leniency if the artworks were recovered intact.

The report also says one of the Bill Reid items surfaced at a Vancouver pawn shop 24 hours after the May 23-24 theft, but was reclaimed by the person who brought it in after the intense media coverage surrounding the thefts.

Thirteen of the 15 items stolen from the museum were recovered in raids in Burnaby and New Westminster more than a week ago.

All of the Reid items were in good shape, according to police, but the three stolen pieces of Mexican jewellery had been dismantled.

Three suspects were taken in for questioning, but no charges were laid.

Art Hostage comments:

Information coming in, one last push guys, Danegeld first, then final return, otherwise

Norway will they return !!!

Rudyard Kipling Danegeld

IT IS always a temptation to an armed and agile nation,
To call upon a neighbour and to say:
"We invaded you last night - we are quite prepared to fight,
Unless you pay us cash to go away."

And that is called asking for Dane-geld,
And the people who ask it explain
That you’ve only to pay ’em the Dane-geld
And then you’ll get rid of the Dane!

It is always a temptation to a rich and lazy nation,
To puff and look important and to say:
"Though we know we should defeat you, we have not the time to meet you.
We will therefore pay you cash to go away."

And that is called paying the Dane-geld;
But we’ve proved it again and again,
That if once you have paid him the Dane-geld
You never get rid of the Dane.

It is wrong to put temptation in the path of any nation,
For fear they should succumb and go astray,
So when you are requested to pay up or be molested,
You will find it better policy to say:

"We never pay any one Dane-geld,
No matter how trifling the cost,
For the end of that game is oppression and shame,
And the nation that plays it is lost!"

Recent history of Danegeld

sound familiar Marsha ??

more to follow........................

Update:

Lynette Tien, are you being a good girl ??

Dale Fedoruk, are you being a good boy ??

Not to forget Lance and Angela !!
Hope it is not true the Bill Reid pipe has suffered damage ?

If the damage to the Pipe is preventing it being returned then don't worry it can be repaired, better back damaged, then not back at all !!

Lets put this whole episode to bed and see both the final Bill Reid icons returned, if the Eagle pin has not been already !!!

More to come.................. Careful, someone will get shot in the head !!!!

Dreamboard ~ June Full Moon

It's the full moon again, and Suzie has invited us all to create a dreamboard.

Today I took myself out on a trip to the store and browsed a variety of magazines, being open to anything catching my eye. That process itself was a treat filled with insights and discoveries. I was reminded how much I enjoy Marie Claire Maison, including the fact that it's in French. When we went to Montreal recently, it reawakened my love of languages and today I so enjoyed being able to include French in my dreamboard.

Once again, I chose intuitively. I see in my board guidance about the direction of my business but primarily this board is an invitation to Spirit, to Magic and to the Universe. It is a request for insight, guidance and connection. It is an offering of my heart, my creativity and my talents.

I have a feeling it's going to be a powerful month.

It's not too late to participate. What are you dreaming of?

Where to?

I can be a bit obsessive. When my mind hooks into a particular question or problem, I will work it like there's no tomorrow. I'll read books, search the web, take classes, make lists, journal, collage, ask questions, talk about it with friends and family. I'll ask for help, for inspiration, for information and for insight. And generally, I'll make myself and everyone around me rather tired.

And so, right now, I'm opening up to a different approach. I'm sitting with the question and letting the Universe know I'd really like some guidance on the matter, and I'm waiting and watching. I'm turning the intensity dial down a notch, taking a deep breath and turning up my receivers.

The question on my mind has been "what's next?" specifically in terms of my business. I've got a million ideas and as many hopes and dreams and have felt powerfully lately that a stronger sense of focus would allow what I do to shine more brightly in the world and make a meaningful connection with people that I can really help.

Here are some of the messages I've collected over the past week (I knew they were messages because of the zing of energy that coursed through my body when I encountered them):
  • "Creativity is one of the easiest ways to hear the messages of our soul" Denise Linn
  • "Perhaps within each of us there is a daring spirit that whispers to be heard" Sue Bender
  • We all know how easy it is to be anesthetized to our surroundings and our own feelings and intuitions." Shaun McNiff.
  • The moment of possibility - "Maybe I could..."
  • Magic (from Sunny)
  • For 4 years, I didn't see a single robin in our neighbourhood. Now there's one that frequents our backyard.
I'm feeling more and more that the main focus of my work is helping people awaken and connect to their true spirit. So often we feel locked in, numbed out, squished down. We're too busy to hear our soul's whispers or maybe we've forgotten how. Funny, that I've had to slow down and ease up myself in order to realize how central this is to my own work. I'm confident that in this receptive place, my spirit and the Universe will continue to speak to me and guide me in my discovery of what's next.

From shirts to yarn

Well I went beyond the shirt to yarn. This takes a lot more time but well worth it when I see the finished product. The first set of 7 is a cotton yarn that has been dyed. This is a long process as it requires the dye to set for 12-24 hours and then the drying process can take 1 to 2 days.

The picture of the 9 skeins are where I did 2 skeins of wool. Totally differant dying process but same amount of time for the drying process. You know you can't stick these in the dryer right?
And the best part is they are one of a kind. I couldn't duplicate these if I tried.
Now do I sell them or do I keep them
