Muslims just want to have fun.

Oh Lawd! What is going on here in A-merry-ca? Why is it harder for Muslims to pursue happiness than the rest of you A-merry-cans? BTW, Speaking of pursuing happiness; I guess we won't be up in arms about this latest social media flash mob phenomenon. I mean they are just college students, and I didn't see any of you Negroes in the crowd scaring folks. But I digress.

"Rye Playland was shut down Tuesday after cops scuffled with Muslims upset that women wearing head scarves were barred from the rides, witnesses said.
Fifteen people, including three women, were charged with disorderly conduct and assault in the chaos, authorities said.

The Westchester County park was packed with Muslims celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr - the holiday marking the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.
One woman, Entisai Ali, began arguing with cops over the amusement park's head scarf, or hijab, rule, said Dena Meawad, 18, of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.
The ban, which is not Muslim specific, was imposed about 3 years ago mostly to prevent hats from falling onto the tracks of roller coasters and other rides, park officials said.

"The cops started getting loud with her and she started getting loud, too. They pushed her on the ground and arrested her," Meawad said.
Her cousin, Kareem Meawad, 17, went to try to protect the woman and was beaten by cops and also arrested, she added. Her brother, Issam Meawad, 20, was pushed to the ground and taken into custody when he tried to help his cousin, she said.

"She just wanted to get on a ride. That was it," Dena Meawad said of the initial confrontation. "It's clear, this all happened because we're Muslim."
John Hodges, chief inspector of Westchester County Public Safety, insisted that police did not use excessive force.

He said up to 100 cops from surrounding departments converged on the park.
Two park rangers were injured in the melee, prompting felony assault charges against two people arrested, officials said.
The ugly incident happened just after 1 p.m. The event was organized by the Muslim American Society of New York, and attracted 3,000 Muslims from Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Westchester County.

Ali's sister, Ayman Alrabah, 24, of Brooklyn said her husband, brother and father were all tackled by cops and put into handcuffs when they tried to help her sister.
Alrabah said she was unaware of the head-scarf rule until she and her sister tried to get on the park's Dragon Coasters.

"We requested a refund and all of a sudden an argument became a riot," Alrabah said. "Cops came. They were hitting my brother, my dad. My husband was on the floor and they were handcuffing him.

She said her 4-year-old son was "traumatized" by seeing his father arrested.
"They treated us like animals, like we were nothing," Alrabah said. "They came with their dogs and sticks. We came to have fun." [Source]

Oh stop it! Where have you ever heard of cops attacking people with "dogs and sticks"? Oh wait....never mind.

Finally, I am not an expert on climate change and global warming [or the lack of it], but I do know that we have been having some unusually freakish weather occurrences all over the world of late, and that reasonable people can disagree on just how much man made behavior is causing the earth's weather patterns to change.

Reasonable people. The wingnuts in this country, and folks like their presidential candidate, Governor Big Hair, are not convinced.  They believe that global warming is all a hoax. And thanks to their 24 hour propaganda machine and the ignorance of quite a few most of our fellow citizens, they are actually gaining the upper hand in the debate. Which is really kind of sad, because if they had their way there would be no debate in the first place.

Privatization watch: Keefe keeps commissary contract

Glad to hear Aramark didn't get it, at least (we tried to kick them out of ASU for not paying a living wage) - though all these folks tick it to prisoners with their prices, which in turn comes out of poor families and communities.

No word yet on the privatization of all the state prison medical services, and still waiting to hear on the new private prisons. CCA already seems to think at least one new facility will be going up in Wickenburg - they're just waiting for the ADC to put out the press release or something, so stay tuned.

He has some scores to settle.

This should be interesting. It seems that the wingnuts in Washington want to hold up FEMA funding for the hurricane battered East Coast states.

"As rescuers raced Tuesday to free people trapped by floodwaters caused by Hurricane Irene, Washington politicians bickered over how to pay for it.

The same budget arguments that nearly brought the first government default in history earlier this month now raise questions about whether the Federal Emergency Management Agency will have enough money to deal with Irene's aftermath.

FEMA's Disaster Relief Fund has less than $800 million remaining, and given the pace of operations in the wake of Irene, could run out before the end of the current fiscal year on September 30.

With conservative House Republicans calling for spending cuts to offset any increase in emergency funds -- a condition opposed by many Democrats -- the ability of Congress to act quickly on the issue remains uncertain.

"The notion that we would hold this up until Republicans can prompt another budget fight and figure out what they want to cut, what they want to offset in the budget, and to pit one section of the country against the other and to delay this and create this uncertainty, it's just the latest chapter and I think one of the most unsavory ones of our budget wars," said Rep. David Price, D-North Carolina." [Source]

Oh well, I guess we do need our government from time to time after all. Republicans, however, do not believe that.

This is a new twist to the class warfare game. Let's call it region warfare.

So Dick Cheney's book, "In My Time", will be in book stores today. ["Don't call it a comeback" ]

Cheney has some scores to settle. Already he is calling out Colin and doing it without any compunction. He even tried to embarrass Condi. If there has ever been a more crass and evil man [or woman] in A-merry-can politics I would like to know who it is. Even George Will is pissed at the porcine looking Neocon.

But I guess this is, according to Pat Buchanan, his last "political will and testament" to the A-merry-can people. He wants to set the record straight before he checks out of this life to his new one where it's very warm all year around. (I hope he packs light.) Mr. Cheney, I think your time is up.

Muddy and Murky

I cannot tell you what was in my mind when I made these blocks. Nor can I tell you what insight prompted me to put them away.  Half of them finish at 8" and the other half finish at 4".

They came to the surface this week, shortly after the dozen Bill Morris blocks which are now all together and just waiting for a border.

Now these are up on the wall.  There are a lot of partial FQs remaining, and some uncut FQs of this murky, muddy strain.

And, as I cannot tell you what started these blocks or what put them on hold, nor can I tell you what will become of them.  Perhaps you can tell me.  I wonder if they would do better in a straight rather than on-point set.  I wonder if they would like some breathing space in the form of lattice.  I wonder if there is any hope at all that they can turn into a nice project.

Ideas solicited.  Even if your idea is "throw them out."

Escaped prisoner could be hiding in Guildford

By Melanie Hall

August 30, 2011

A PRISONER who absconded from an open jail in South Yorkshire last month may have fled to Guildford, police searching for him have said.

On July 18, Daniel O'Loughlin, 35, failed to return to HMP Hatfield after he was given temporary release for a work placement within the community, and now officers believe he could be in the Stoughton area of the town.

O'Loughlin was behind bars for his role in an organised crime group which committed a series of high-profile and high-value burglaries at large country houses across central and western England.

In August 2008, he was imprisoned for his part in the conspiracy and in May 2010 a court ordered him to pay back £113,000, which was deemed to have been gained from his criminal activity.

The police investigation, called Operation Haul, was a multi-force project involving Thames Valley Police, Gloucestershire Constabulary, West Mercia Police, Warwickshire Police and Wiltshire Police.

West Mercia Police is one of three forces now searching for O'Loughlin.

Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Murphy said: "O'Loughlin has been missing for more than a month and we need to find him and return him to prison.

"He has strong links to Worcestershire, Gloucestershire and Berkshire, but we have information that suggests he is visiting contacts he has in Guildford.

"While it is thought he does not pose a direct threat, we would advise that he should not be approached by members of the public.

Yarn Bombing

Main Street
Small Town, NE

I know the act of yarn bombing (a.k.a. "knit grafitti") is prolly supposed to be all hush-hush, but I can't help blabbing about these knitting adventures of mine. Which means, it's really no secret, & not hush-hush at all.
The reason I yarn bomb is to bring a curious smile to the faces of those who see it. A bit of happy in an unexpected place will hopefully do that. And because I'm not damaging public property, it's all good. Still, I it's a contraversial topic. (Which doesn't make sense at all to me!)

When my knitting accomplice & I headed out to do some grafitti on this particular evening, we were a bit apprehensive. Because, seriously, she recently got pulled over for RUNNING DOWN THE STREET!! She only got a verbal warning I believe. But what would the Po-Po do if they saw us meddling on Main Street with yarn & needles & scissors?? We'd get sent to the slammer for sure! Ironically, to make things a bit more interesting, we decided to yarn bomb a light pole RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET from the police station. haha!

Everything went smoothly though. And more quickly than my first attempt.
I predict a totem pole of yarn happiness in this light pole's future.
Shhhhh.

Michele, "The Tonight Show" is calling.

"Tragedy hit Sunday after a young woman was caught in floodwaters caused by Hurricane Irene and died in her car in Salem County.
New Jersey State Police say Celena Sylvestri of Quinton, N.J., called authorities for help from her car on a flooded road early Sunday morning in Salem County and was found dead in the vehicle about eight hours later.

Sylvestri was driving to her boyfriend’s house when her car became stuck in floodwaters. Sylvestri called for help about 1:40 a.m. Sunday, first to her boyfriend then 9-1-1, saying water was up to her neck in her Honda Accord.
For some reason she had tried driving through the Salem River Creek and it had lifted her car off Harding Highway in Pilesgrove.

We tried to find her, we tried to locate her, we were screaming for her -- we couldn't find her," said State Police Lt. Jay Miller. "There was just so much water -- water was surging -- there was no telling where she went in at. It was just a dangerous situation."

Her body was found in her car about 9:30 a.m. about 80 feet off the road by state troopers, police said.

She was swept off the road and deep into the woods. She appeared to still be strapped into her car seat when she was found, according to authorities.

Her car was submerged along Route 40." [Source]

Hahaha......wait, that's not funny. Who would even make fun of something as tragic as a natural disaster that caused the death of poor Ms. Sylvestri and at least 34 other people?

"As it turns out, Rep. Michele Bachmann was joking Sunday, according to an aide, when she said that God was sending a message to Washington through Hurricane Irene and last week's East Coast earthquake.
Talking Points Memo reports the following:

"Obviously she was saying it in jest," campaign spokesperson Alice Stewart told TPM in a statement.
According to the St. Petersburg Times, during a Florida campaign stop Sunday Bachmann, a fundamentalist Christian said the following:
"I don't know how much God has to do to get the attention of the politicians. We've had an earthquake; we've had a hurricane. He said, 'Are you going to start listening to me here?' Listen to the American people because the American people are roaring right now. They know government is on a morbid obesity diet and we've got to rein in the spending." [Source]
We have got to "rein" something in alright, but it ain't our spending.

"Bachmann, among the top three candidates seen to have a chance to win the Republican nomination and take on President Barack Obama next year, made similar comments elsewhere in Florida on Saturday, drawing some laughs from her audience.

When the remarks began drawing wide attention, she went into some damage control.

"Of course I was being humorous when I said that. It would be absurd to think it was anything else," Bachmann said on Monday on a campaign stop in Miami."I am a person who loves humor, I have a great sense of humor," she said." [Source]

Hahaha!!

Sweet William

It was one of those swaps where I sent out a piece of  my fabric to each participant and gave her the specifications for what I wanted.  In this case, I sent out pieces of various William Morris fabrics that were predominantly green.  I asked people to use a white or WOW background and, if they liked, another color to coordinate with the Morris.  I wanted 12.5" blocks.  I think I received two dozen back, and the first dozen were made into a quilt a long time ago.  I found this remaining dozen this weekend and decided to do something with them.  They seemed to want some nice white lattice and border and I thought that some stars in the cornerstones would be nice.

I finished setting the blocks tonight and have been looking at the piece of white fabric that I have left to determine whether there is enough to make 6" borders.  There might be just enough.  Or there might not.  I need to do the math again when I'm not tired!

If I need to get more white, that's not a problem.  I'll just add it to the shopping list for Friday when my visitor and I go out to Lancaster County.  I'd like to get the top all finished this weekend.  Because I found another set of blocks from another swap that could use some attention.

Deaths in Custody: Joshua Haynes

Another death under investigation -

Condolences to Joshua's loved ones.

To the rest of you guys inside: please hang in there and look out for each other...I'm sure that help is on the way, I just don't know who it will be or how they'll help, but you need to outlive your sentences, in the meantime, if you can. This fellow was only doing six years (which seems a lot for burglary...)

I'll post an update on the cause of death once I get it. If anyone knows this prisoner and can fill in the blanks so we can know him better - and find out what really happened to him - please feel free to contact me at 480-580-6807 or prisonabolitionist@gmail.com

ASPC-Yuma officer suicides.

...maybe these aren't the kinds of jobs these prison towns should be wishing for their kids to grow into. The rate of suicide among corrections officers is reportedly higher than that of regular cops...

Our condolences to Dale's friends, family, and colleagues; suicide is a devastating way to leave.

--------from the Yuma Sun------

Correction officer's death believed to be suicide

A 52-year-old corrections officer at the Arizona State Prison Complex-Yuma died in an apparent suicide last week at the prison.

The corrections officer, now identified as Dale Thomas, fatally shot himself at about 10 p.m. Wednesday night, at the complex's parking lot shortly after his shift began, according to Barrett Marson, media relations administrator for ADOC.

Thomas, who was working the overnight shift that night, was a 12-year veteran of the job, having entered service with the Department of Corrections back in September of 1999.

The Arizona State Prison Complex - Yuma is located on the corner of Avenue B and Juan Sanchez Boulevard, east of San Luis.

Marson said the incident is under investigation.

Thomas is not the first corrections officer from ASPC-Yuma to have committed suicide while on the job.

In January of 2007 a male corrections officer died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the firing range during weapons training.

Mondays.

I write a weekly newspaper column & this is usually how I spend
my Monday afternoons.
Cozy in my bed. Heavy quilt at my feet. Laptop atop my lap. Notebook & pen nearby. Candle flickering. Pandora singing to me. Sometimes a yummy drink to sip on.
Deadline looming...

Week in Review: August 22-28

I did so much happy crafting last week. The perfect remedy. (At least I think it is.)
And school started. Another remedy.
And high school football has begun. Remedy #3.
I even made cupcakes. Remediar numero cuatro.
Hmm, I think I'm on to something here...

I recently read a quote that said:
"DO MORE OF WHAT YOU LOVE."
I really think I will make that my mantra.
I've already given up a lot of things that were stacked way too high on my pretty little plate. So high that they became unbalanced, crashing atop me. It feels good to be taking things easy. I now quietly analyze my choices. And make decisions established upon the afore-mentioned mantra.

I've started adventuring again. And creating more. Checking stuff off my "I've always wanted to try this" list. Happily purging & organizing my home. Finding happy places to nest...
It's a slow process of restructuring my life, schedule, behaviour & attitude. It not only involves decluttering my surroundings, but my insides as well.
And I'm finding that when I do more of what I love, life is not as complicated as it once seemed.

Brutalizing the mentally ill: Gerster's Sentencing.

--------------

UPDATE/CORRECTIONS HERE (september 2011)

Maricopa County Courthouse (W. Jefferson / 3rd Ave)
March 2011

Went to Kevin Gerster's pre-trial this AM, only to learn that he entered a plea last week to three counts: a misdemeanor for tampering with criminal records (he gave a buddy the address of a guy his ex-girlfriend was dating, and the buddy stalked and assaulted them both), as well as two aggravated assault charges for beating up his mentally ill prisoners (both are just class 6 felonies, though - charging him for assaulting "vulnerable adults", as I strongly urged the prosecutors to do, would have made it a class 2 felony).

Here's what really troubles me, though: ev
en though he's a repeat offender of violent crimes against vulnerable persons, they let him off the hook with "non-dangerous/ non-repetitive" designations on his assaults - how can aggravated assault be "non-dangerous"???? That's real BS. It's so he can get out without a felony in the end - just probation and a misdemeanor, if he behaves (see the law below)

That favor by the prosecutor may well be what helps him avoid prison for all this.
It sure minimizes his responsibility for hurting people repeatedly - the only reason he can't keep doing so is because he got caught, not because he found God or something. That's one sign of a sociopath - that and the sheer absence of a conscience.

This is all so disappointing - I really thought Prichard and her boss Bill Montgomery had what it took to really get justice in this case. That guy's going to walk with probation and community service, no doubt - despite violating all of our trust, as well as the welfare of his prisoners. God only knows how traumatized his victims still are - they'd have every reason to be afraid of the uniform of the state, now, too - as do the rest of us.

Here's Gerster's sentencing date; be there if you can:

10/21/2011 at 10:30 a.m.,
Judge William Brotherton Jr.
201 W. Jefferson St, PHX
Maricopa County Superior Court

Look for this provision to be pulled out at sentencing, so he has a chance of getting out of there without any felony charges at all (and could therefore become a rent-a-cop at your local high school or mall) .

Shame on the MCAO for not prosecuting him for abusing vulnerable adults... and this plea they gave him is hardly justice for those of us who were victimized by the breaking of our trust - on our dime - much less for the guy whose jaw he broke.

Arizona Revised Statutes
Title 13: Criminal Code

13-604. Class 6 felony; designation

A. Notwithstanding any other provision of this title, if a person is convicted of any class 6 felony not involving a dangerous offense and if the court, having regard to the nature and circumstances of the crime and to the history and character of the defendant, is of the opinion that it would be unduly harsh to sentence the defendant for a felony, the court may enter judgment of conviction for a class 1 misdemeanor and make disposition accordingly or may place the defendant on probation in accordance with chapter 9 of this title and refrain from designating the offense as a felony or misdemeanor until the probation is terminated. The offense shall be treated as a felony for all purposes until such time as the court may actually enter an order designating the offense a misdemeanor. This subsection does not apply to any person who stands convicted of a class 6 felony and who has previously been convicted of two or more felonies.

B. If a crime or public offense is punishable in the discretion of the court by a sentence as a class 6 felony or a class 1 misdemeanor, the offense shall be deemed a misdemeanor if the prosecuting attorney files any of the following:

1. An information in superior court designating the offense as a misdemeanor.

2. A complaint in justice court or municipal court designating the offense as a misdemeanor within the jurisdiction of the respective court.

3. A complaint, with the consent of the defendant, before or during the preliminary hearing amending the complaint to charge a misdemeanor.

Stolen Art Watch, Burglar, Wanted, Escapes Again !

Antiques worth £100,000 stolen from Tetbury dealership

Antiques worth around £100,000 were stolen from an antique dealership in Tetbury.

The burglary is thought to have happened between 2.25am and 2.50am today, when offenders forced entry to the rear of the antiques dealership in Long Street.

Police believe the thieves travelled in and out of the area in an older style estate car, possibly a Vauxhall, which was dark blue or grey. It's thought that they had parked the car in Close Gardens.

Police are urging anyone who was in the area that may have seen this vehicle or anyone acting suspiciously to contact them as soon as possible, if they have not already done so.

Irene Report

And Other Assorted Stuff

On Saturday the sun shining through the trees created a cathedral of light along the woodland way into downtown Northampton.

But after hurricane Irene passed through on Sunday, the woodland way was blocked in several places by fallen trees.

Personally, I do not think that Irene lived up to Hurricane Gloria back in the mid-1980's. I remember being out in my backyard during the period of time when the eye of the hurricane passed over Springfield, and the sky was as strange and beautiful as I've ever seen it, with odd colors and spectacular cloud formations. I saw no such wonders of nature displayed by Irene. However, maybe I was just in the wrong location, as Irene made much more of an impact in other parts of our Valley, as seen in this Craig Gagne photo taken in Deerfield near Richardson's Candy Shoppe.

Some critics have complained that the media overhyped Irene, but in any case, it's over.

Earlier in the week people were arriving at the Amherst Survival Center by all means of transportation.

The media was there too, like Hampshire Gazette reporter Nick Grabbe.

And veteran photographer Gordon Daniels of the Amherst Bulletin.

Soon U.S. Congressman John Olver arrived on the scene.

He was immediately given an apron and put to work.

I guess this is what you would literally call "serving your constituents."

I was surprised to see this big line stretching down the street to see Alice Cooper in Northampton.

There has always been something kinda corny about Alice Cooper and his horror show schtick. Yet at the same time his music is rockin good fun and the special effects I'm told are impressive. Plus to people of a certain age he's a big nostalgia trip that still generates a substantial cash flow. This limousine bus parked at the Hotel Northampton was definitely Alice's.

Only in Northampton do signs end up like this. Who knows what they originally said?

Sean is a hip Hamp biker.

A rare recent interview with David Starr of the Springfield Newspapers. Extremely controversial in earlier years, Starr has faded from the scene somewhat, although he maintains his position as President of the Springfield Newspapers. This interview is about what you'd expect - lots of civic cheerleading, quoting Karl Marx, and dripping with unintended irony.

The Polaroid effect was a fun thing to try.  Using a picture of some daisy's I had taken and then adding little frames around giving it the look of several pictures

Three More Sleeps!

Guess who's coming to visit at the end of this week?

To sleep over for two nights?

To visit and play and meet some of my friends?

If you're guessing Shelby, you're not right but you're mighty close!

Three more sleeps!

[foo't-bawl]

I ♥ high school football.
I love sitting on the sidelines & being a part of all the energy.
I love having my camera in hand & pretending like I know what I'm doing.
(And then I love coming home & editing the photos! The effect in the picture above is created through picnik.com—the focal zoom effect.)
I really have no clue about the rules of the game.
It confuses me to no end.
But I still love being right there where all the action is.
And I especially love road trips with my friend Susan to games out of town!
Those trips will come soon enough. But for now, this scrimmage was a teaser.
First game of the season is next weekend.
Woot! Woot!

"Assimilationist", Irene is gone, and another day another stupid comment from a wingnut.

So O won't give a posthumous pardon to brother Marcus. (h/t to Asabagna over at the Afrospear for hipping me to this story) That's a shame. I know that it's all symbolism at this point, but it would send a nice signal to folks like moi. But then again, we know that it would send a totally different message to certain folks, and O needs their votes come November, 2012. He can always count on us Negroes for our support.  Forget the fact that Garvey was the hardest working man in the Negro self improvement business, and with his ideas for the advancement of African people (not just African Americans) he was way ahead of his time.

Anyway, I know that some folks are not pleased:

"The Obama administration has rejected a call for a posthumous presidential pardon for Marcus Garvey, calling it a waste of time and resources.
The denial of a pardon came only recently, in response to a campaign waged by attorney Donovan Parker, who had been writing Obama weekly since January 2011 calling for Garvey's pardon.
The denial letter stated:

"Many posthumous pardon requests would likely be based on a claim of manifest injustice, and given that decades have passed since the event and the historical record would have to be scoured to objectively and comprehensively investigate such applications, it is the Department's position that the limited resources which are available to process requests for Presidential clemency — now being submitted in record numbers — are best dedicated to requests submitted by persons who can truly benefit from a grant of the request."
So the Obama administration says pardoning Garvey is a waste of time and resources, yet he has found the time and resources to pardon a turkey on Thanksgiving.

The denial is ironic, considering that the struggle waged by the Garvey Movement in the early 1900s — and subsequent struggles influenced by it — set the stage for Obama's election.

That the U.S. government even needed to deliver a black president to African people as a last ditch effort to undermine struggle for true self-determination is a direct effect of the struggles influenced by the Garvey Movement.
Marcus Garvey was the founder and leader of the Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities League (UNIA-ACL), a global organization of African people that held at least 11 million members during the early 1900s.
His work to organize for self-determination for African people has influenced every subsequent struggle of African people.

The U.S. government sought to destroy Garvey and his organization, including utilizing FBI agents to infiltrate his organization.

J. Edgar Hoover — the FBI director who initiated the vicious COINTELPRO war on the Black Power Movement of the Sixties — first made his name by destroying the Garvey Movement. It was to infiltrate Garvey's movement that the FBI integrated.

Though Hoover stated in an October 1919 memo that Garvey had committed no "crime" to justify deporting him, the FBI eventually set the black leader up.
Garvey was imprisoned and, in 1927, deported to Jamaica.

Independentist vs. assimilationist struggle continues

While ironic, it is not surprising that the Obama administration has taken a denial stance on the question of pardoning Garvey.

Obama represents the same trend that opposed Garvey in the 1900s.
Garvey represented the aspirations of African people for independence, self-determination and power over our own lives.

In opposition to him were assimilationists like W.E.B. DuBois and the NAACP, those who saw their future working within the oppressive system that exploits African labor and resources for its continued existence.

The assimilationists attacked Garvey while he was alive, uniting with the U.S. government to undermine Garvey's movement, which was based among the African working masses.

Today, Obama represents the highest expression of the assimilationist trend.
His administration has already waged war on Africa in Libya, Somalia and elsewhere through AFRICOM, so it is only consistent that he would continue that trend by maintaining the criminalization of this African incredible leader." [Source]

Ouch!

Finally, Irene has come and gone, and, as is usually the case, the hype was more than the actual hit.

Some winners and losers:

Winners: The emergency management coordinators from state, municipal, and federal agencies. I know I always rip Governor Krispy Kreme, but he did a good job over in Jersey, and our HNIC here in Philly did a good job as well. Folks got the message to stay indoors and various public agencies were right on the spot when the going got tough.

Losers: The clueless news media. I know you have to hype and sensationalize every story for your ratings, but watching some clown stand in a puddle of water in the middle of Manhattan while the ticker is reading "BREAKING NEWS, NEW YORK FACES CATASTROPHE" is a bit much. This type of scene repeated itself over and over again. And when these idiots interviewed normal citizens who tried to tell them that things weren't as bad as they seemed, it was funny to see their reaction as they tried to scare more people into watching their over the top news cast.

One man who was just rescued from his truck here in Philly was being interviewed by a correspondent on the scene, when the anchor in the studio chimed in and asked the man if he managed to make it out -I swear to you that's what she said.-The poor man looked long and hard into the camera and and everyone watching made a silent connection with him. Everyone, of course, except the clueless anchor.

Folks, in the future, please give us less hyperbole and more of what is actually happening with the damn news.

Biggest Loser: Who else but a wingnutGlenn Beckkk for saying that Irene was actually a blessing.

"The Washington Post reports radio personality Glenn Beck has declared Hurricane Irene is a "blessing." He touts the strong storm lashing the East Coast of the United States as a harbinger to warn Americans to be prepared for anything and to stock up food."

I know Glenn, after we elect Governor Big Hair all these natural disasters will just suddenly go away. "Prayer changes things."

Prison abolitionist charged with criminal damage.

State violence is criminal damage, too...

Look what finally arrived - all that stuff from June's Artwalk night got kicked down to misdemeanors. There's more to come, though, I think. I've been trying to get the attention of the Superior Court justices, not these folks handling the misdemeanors. It hasn't been easy. Hopefully I won't have to commit more felonious acts of resistance to do so...

So, I guess my arraignment for this round of graffiti ("criminal damage") is September 13 at 8:45am. Come early if you want to help me chalk the walk - I'm working on a memorial to Arpaio's victims for the Municipal Court judges...
